I think I might have fried my cpu and/or motherboard. So will probably be looking to get new ones. I want a high-end system. Any recommendations for new cpu and motherboard for a poker player who can have umpteen applications open at any one time.

I know I could have posted this in the computer section, but I think some of my fellow poker players might have a good idea what suits poker players computer wise.

How high-end do you need it? Are you talking PC-gamer high-end, or media encoding high-end? And how future-proof do you need it? And what's your budget? And...? And...? More info needed! :)

Another thing: do you intend keeping your current PSU/RAM/graphics card? That will have a big bearing on your options.

Budget wise: I have no set limit as such, obviously beyond spending incredibly silly money. I suppose you could say absolute tops spending wise on cpu and motherboard would be about €600 if you wanted an exact figure but I would expect I could find decent gear for a lot less than that.

I use my PC mainly for Poker but use several other applications and having a decent spec is important to me. Basically if I'm going to be buying new gear I want the good stuff ;)

I would prefer to keep my RAM which are Dimms. And also would prefer to keep my Graphics Card which is an ATI Radeon 9600.

At the minute my PC has powered up again so it might not need replacing just yet. Still, it's been playing up big time lately so I don't rule out having to splash out the dosh either.

I'm fairly sure that card is AGP, which is a very dated technology at this stage, so I'm not even sure you'll be able to get a motherboard for that. And if it's an AGP board, the memory is probably original DDR, whereas DDR3 is now starting to hit the market. I'd say if you're looking at a motherboard/CPU upgrade, you'll also have to upgrade the RAM and G-card, and possibly the PSU as well. But it would be fairly cheap, and shouldn't be anywhere near €600 if you choose wisely.

    Code 999 then D09V03

    Spec.

    Upgraded CPU
XP Home. I assume you can upgrade to PRO from a previous license.
    Remove NBD warranty.
    Remove screen
    Remove Mouse
Add your own GFX (Check the PSU can power it!) The one in it only does one screen but has DVI out. I'll check and see if it close to yours. Still a decent card in it for poker but not the latest high end games)
    Use your current screens.
Price = 361.29. Even cheaper if you dont upgrade the CPU (288.69)
You can have a 22 inch screen for 554.59 for the lower CPU or 627.49 with the higher CPU (The higher one is q 2.33 WITH 1333MHz & 4MB Cache btw)
Both CPU's are Dual "2" Cores too.

oh and it has 2 gigi of decent RAM.

    Knock your self out.

Even the real cheap basic one is a good buy.
