Jackpot Wednesday Tournament Hand

Early stages of the tourney. 4,500 starting stack.

Villain1 is rubbish. Even this early on he has played every hand to the turn and bet 100 into a 1,350 pot with middle pair/rubbish kicker the last hand but has just won back most of his money when he flopped two pair and got some action so we are about even stacked, if anything I have a few hundred more.

Villain2 is a LAG player with a tendency to play rubbish in position but respects my raises in general. Plays alot of cash and I feel I have a good sense of how he plays.

Hero in the BB with 10-8os

4 limpers, SB calls and I check.

    Flop: 10-8-6 rainbow.

I consider betting but check. Checked to Villain 2 on button who bets 150.

SB folds and I flat call. I am absolutely certain V1 has at least a pair but nothing major. Everyone, bar V2, folds. V2 is in middle position. I genuinely believe he has a pretty hand but nothing major. Q-J seems possible, I wouldn't put a gutshot beyond him but he has bet everytime he makes a pair so I'm sure i'm ahead.

I know flat calling is somewhat dangerous but I think I am miles ahead and I don't want to lose any value from V2. I know V1 will keep betting for me.

Turn is 7c putting 2 clubs up there.

    I check, as does V2. V1 bets 250. What do I do?

i was at the table so have put my comment in spoilers below so people who dont want any info on what happens dont have to read it.
the flop is fine, betting is also fine. you gotta bet the turn once the board gets that scary (think i may have said this to you at the time) , against the villain in question and the hand he had, not sure what bet gets him off it though. i played a hand against him before that when i had top pair top kicker and bet bet bet, and he callled the whole way down, if he gets lucky against u so be it, but he'll pay u off all day so u want as much chances to get his chips in the middle. if he misses on the river he doenst give u any chips.

one thing i would say though keith is that the guy u were against was clearly new to the game, and you gave him a right slagging after the hand. try and cut the harsh criticism out, once u got knocked out a few people (myself included) said u got what u deserved cos of what u said to him after the hand above... although keep up the table talk! :p just keep it friendly! :D

You considered right, but you took the terrible option. Of all the ways of playing this postflop, check-calling the flop is by far the worst of them. You should bet every time, and every time you don't you should check-raise. As played call turn and c/f to a river bet.

Keith never knew you to lose the head after a bad beat.....

    DO NOT CHECK THE FLOP:
You jus flopped two pair with garbage out of the blinds, bet out the flop or if you are really resigned to checking , check raise if your sure V2 will bet. Take the pot down now and move on.

I have no doubt that the 7 has really helped that "terrible" villain

I have to agree with you here. To be honest, those who know me know I am normally very amiable at the table but as Gordon, Paddy or anyone who's played alot with me recently will testify, I have been in the worst downswing I've ever had (though it looks like I am coming out of it thank God) and that guy just got the brunt of a bad month.

It was completely out of line and if I saw him again I would apologise. the game doesn't need new players scared off; you're absolutely correct about that.

As for how the hand played:

He had AKc and hit runner runner flush. I paid him on the river but I was just annoyed cause i'd played Alan so perfectly and I should have realised he hadn't got the guts to bet so big without the absolute nuts.

Doesn't excuse my behaviour though and I did deserve to run into Kings next hand and go home. It's a fun game and I have been scathing in my criticism of overly aggressive table talk in the past and I take my spanking from Jeff as intended.

Let me get this straight, villain 1 limps in with AcKc, yeah thats terrible, he check calls the flop, bad again but not horrific considering he's a beginner, he semi-bluffs the turn, ok, his bet sizing was bad, but for a beginner I'm impressed, he hits his flush on the river, and he manages to get a more experienced player to pay him off. excellent. 6 out of 10.

Hero checks his option with 10 8os, standard, hits the flop hard and checks into five players, horrific, calls a bet from limper, pretty bad, checks drawy turn, horrific again, (not sure what action you took next on turn after V1 bets into you, so won't comment), draw hits river, pays off villain holding possibly the 15th or 16th nuts, horrifically horrific. 2 out of 10.

I think it amusing that you berate his play and humiliate him.
    My 2c.
