Anyone tempted by this little baby yet ?

    http://www.sigma-sd14.com/

Sigma have not exactly pushed to boat out on features .... but I'm really curious to hear personal stories about the performance these new Fovean sensors ... sounds as if they have the potential to make all our gear obsolete overnight ...

The picture they have in the ad, the skin tones are spectacular but I have read in a lot of reviews that in other areas is is very disapointing. Its good to push the market on with these innovations and tbh to sell Sigma camera systems you need a niche technical expertise.. One to watch for the future

They're far from new though (unless you're referring to this particular one).

And it's been said for the past five or six years or so that the Foveon type will make the Bayer obsolete. Still waiting.

I'd love it to be all that they claim it is, but for the time being at least I think we're safe :)

hasn't there been issues with the technology though ... I am under the impression that this DSLR is the first commercial available of its kind ... is this not the case ?

I think previous Sigma's had this technology, SD9 and 10 from donkeys years ago and a Polaroid P&S (after googling).

I remember a very heated debate on one of the big photography sites (FM, LL or DPreview) about two years ago. It was an 'in use' technology back then so it's definitely far from the first time this type was used in a dslr. I think that Fuji may have used a foveon in one their earlier models also, but can't be sure on that.

I remember looking at an SD9 years ago that had this sensor in it. The in-camera JPEG support seems to be a new development though. IIRC the SD9 and 10 were RAW only.

It's impossible to judge the quality of a sensor on a computer screen. You'd need to see a good print to make a judgement.

I upgraded from the SD9 to the SD14.

It is a great camera - amazing colour and I took some excellent shots of family, running water, nightshots etc..

I do have a current post on adverts.ie as I am selling a full SD14 kits with lots of extras and lenses.

I would be interested if it had a canon mount.:)
    Was 50% cheaper.
    Was faster.
    etc
