An absolute bargain without a doubt!

Possibly one of the finest movies of our time... well, in the realms of Sci-Fi anyways.

Finally Ridley Scott has got his act together (after numerous rumours and "will-he-won't-he" release it) and given this film the DVD release it deserves.

The 5 disc set for under 30 euros is an amazing price. I have the Director's Cut but i'm buying this too. Breakdown of the special features is below:
    Special Features:

    # Commentary by Ridley Scott
    # Commentary by Executive Producer/ Co-Screenwriter Hampton Fancher and Co-Screenwriter David Peoples
    # Producer Michael Deely and production executive Katherine Haber
    # Commentaries by visual futurist Syd Mead
    # production designer Lawrence G. Paull, art director David L. Snyder and special photographic effects supervisors Douglas Trumbull, Richard Yuricich and David Dryer
    # Documentary: Dangerous Days - Making Blade Runner - A feature-length authoritative documentary revealing all the elements that shaped this hugely influential cinema landmark. Cast, crew, critics and colleagues give a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at the film -- from its literary roots and inception through casting, production, visuals and special effects to its controversial legacy and place in Hollywood history.
    # 1982 Theatrical Version: This is the version that introduced U.S. movie-going audiences to a revolutionary film with a new and excitingly provocative vision of the near-future. It contains Deckard/Harrison Ford's character narration and has Deckard and Rachel's (Sean Young) 'happy ending' escape scene.
    # 1982 International Version: Also used on U.S. home video, laserdisc and cable releases up to 1992. This version is not rated, and contains some extended action scenes in contrast to the Theatrical Version.
    # 1992 Director's Cut: The Director's Cut omits Deckard's voiceover narration and removes the "happy ending" finale. It adds the famously-controversial "unicorn" sequence, a vision that Deckard has which suggests that he, too, may be a replicant.
    # Featurette The Electric Dreamer: Remembering Philip K. Dick
    # Featurette Sacrificial Sheep: The Novel vs. The Film
    # Philip K. Dick: The Blade Runner Interviews (Audio)
    # Featurette Signs of the Times: Graphic Design
    # Featurette Fashion Forward: Wardrobe & Styling
    # Screen Tests: Rachel & Pris
    # Featurette The Light That Burns: Remembering Jordan Cronenweth
    # Deleted & Alternate Scenes
    # 1982 Promotional Featurettes
    # Trailers & TV Spots
    # Featurette Promoting Dystopia: Rendering the Poster Art
    # Featurette Deck-A-Rep: The True Nature of Rick Deckard
    # Featurette Nexus Generation: Fans & Filmmakers
    # Workprint Version: This rare version of the film is considered by some to be the most radically different of all the Blade Runner cuts. It includes an altered opening scene, no Deckard narration until the final scenes, no "unicorn" sequence, no Deckard/Rachel "happy ending," altered lines between Batty (Rutger Hauer) and his creator Tyrell (Joe Turkell), alternate music and much more.
    # Introduction by Ridley Scott
    # Commentary by Paul M. Sammon, author of Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner
    # Featurette All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cut

Unfortunately, that's an Aussie site which doesn't ship here:

"Due to size constraints on international shipping, we are regrettably unable to fulfill overseas orders for this item."

    Know anywhere which does? Tempted....

Pre-order for $28 from Amazon.com, a bargain if you have the Xbox HD DVD drive.

It's a 25 year old film, the quality of the hi-def releases is going to look pretty rough when compared to a recent film that was shot and mastered entirely in hi-def...
even the DVD transfer of the director's cut doesn't look all that great.

still some damn good prices though

Thats rubbish I've seen movies like Rambo First Blood and other old transfers that look brilliant in HD, it depends on the source materials obviously but I think it will look great in HD.

Also one thing that I think you'll remember that happened last xmas Customs started really going through packages from amazon play and any US internet companies, it eased off after xmas but I'd bet that it will started checking stuff more closely from November on, so if you order from amazon.com etc you might not see it until after xmas, even if it is not subject to customs charges. This would go for movietyme as well, they ship from New York, I asked them on email if they ship anymoves from their UK office they said they do but only to UK mainland addresses. As Axel Music ship from within Europe no such issue.

I actually got the fifth element (remastered) and shooter on blu ray from amazon.com last week. Took 4 days to arrive and it came from New Zealand of all places. Previous amazon.com packages have been rerouted through frankfurt so it's really luck of the draw.
