    Samsung L73

recommended this to someone else the other day. Got one recently from NY for around the $150 mark. Love it...small, light, easy to use, long battery life etc. Get this and buy a decent size card for it and you'll probably have change from your €200.

Not sure how much these guys charge for shipping, but its the shop mine came from (dad was in ny at the time.) Also, this camera is in argos for €300 in their new catalogue.

I got the Samsung S850 from Argos in January for €220 and its a deadly point and shoot camera, easy to use too. The picture quality is super, even with the digital zoom.
I have an old Minolta SLR that I want to trade in for a digital SLR and have my eye on a Samsung.
Here is a picture I took last Sunday with the S850, this is the original and untouched. Carlingford Bay.JPG

I did a pile of research on cameras recently on the compact range.

I came away with the impression, rightly or wrongly, that fuji seem to be the best on the grounds of colour reproduction. Any shop I went into always recommeneded them. I thought it might have been a sales thing being an untrusting type :) but every time I questioned them I got the same answers.

    So I'd recommened the http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/528160/art/fuji/finepix-z5-fd-chocolate.html @ 189 euro

I was going to recommened the F31FD but they don't have it any more. In saying that I bought the Z5FD on Monday.

Was hoping to get it today but it has not been dispatched.

    Me on Holidays tomorrow.

It *very* much depends on what you want in terms of size and features.

I would always read the reviews. The best reviews are on

    http://www.imaging-resource.com/

If they don't have a review then try

    http://www.steves-digicams.com/

For example the review of the olympus fe-240 says:
"Bottom line - Though the FE-240 is not our first pick in the ultra-compact class, due to its "only OK" image quality and "slower than most" shooting performance. I was happy to see that this model showed better performance than past Olympus models."

Whatever you get, get one with a good optical zoom (3x standard, more better) and top quality lenses. Sony W55 is a great everyday camera - should be available for €200 (or less online) - has 3x optical zoom, great video, Carl Zeiss lenses. Neat size too.

Fuji S5700 is bigger, but more features, and a 12x optical zoom. Not a pocket camera though. Was in Dixons/PC World for €199 recently.
