Both the original and modern version of All Quiet on the Western Front were very good.

Another great one that was made very recently and so benefits from being very violent, realistic and just generally shows it high budget is The Lost Battalion, definitely the one I'd recommend above all others.

That aside, there are a few more, such as The Trench, which is also pretty recent but not so great a film.

There are loads of much older ones but to be honest I find alot of them apart from All Quiet on the Western Front far too dated and bravado style.

Regeneration is perhaps one of my favourite films full stop.

It's based on the Pat Barker Booker-prize winning Regeneration triology.

It was an independant Channel 4 production and stars Jonathan Pryce and Jonhy Lee Miller.

The original music by Mycheal Dana is also outstanding.

You can get it in the foreign films section of Tower Records.

Mycheal Dana is indeed great. As is Regeneration. Forgot all about that film.
