I notice a lot of people have flickr accounts. WHats the feedback and alternatives ?

I also notice that their website seems to be down - does this happen often ?

I think its down at the moment but that’s a rare occurrence.

as an alternative pix.ie is getting some good coverage at the moment and has active participation by its creators on these forums which are responding rapidly to the comments and suggestions which come through this forum.

I've been using flickr for past few weeks and have to say I'm pretty happy with it, so much so I got myself a Pro account,

    downtime isn't an issue

You can use flickr for free, so try it out & see for yourself.
Today is the first time I've been unable to access it.

As mentioned about, pix.ie is an alternative.

Probably an idiot question. I notice that thebaz on his photos has copyright barry delaney (which I think was his name) on his photos. Whats best way to do this ?

As for flickr, I have signed up and uploaded 3 photos from the last week ! At present I havent done anything on security settings so you can all see them and laugh at novice mistakes I have made.

Speaking of flickr, how do you get those damn things in your signature on the forum here? I went to bighugelabs.com and created the widget but cant get it to work in my signature....do you wrap it in the html code brackets? Or the IMG brackets? it doesn't appear in the preview signature so I thought I'd ask someone in the know!

You need to change it so boards reads it correctly, for example I use

Remove HERE from it and change the URL's to yours and it should work for you

    Dumb question alert !!!

I tried to set up a flickr account and it demanded a post code and would not let me proceed without a correct one. I used the usual "xxxxx" or "NA" etc. but it still wouldn't let me in ?? How did ye guys mange it ?

Just make one up, like NB4 6RL or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,163 ✭✭✭ZENER

I tried that but it tells me it's an invalid post-code for my location !

I've selected Ireland and Dublin as country and city, what did you do ?
How long ago since you registered with them?
    Maybe they've changed things ?

Out of curiosity is there a reason you should give real info on sighing up to these kinda things unless I'm buying something I usually just give anon and stuff like that as details but thats just me being paranoid (says gerky as he puts his tinfoil hat on :D)

as regards post code 000 or IEIE sometimes works.

When I was signing up for flickr I could not get past that particular part no matter what I put in,had to goto yahoo.ie an signup there, then login to the flickr website with that existing ID and sign up that way. Hope you got it sorted!

Pix.ie asks for your DOB which is used to for three things:
    • Compliance with age regulations (minors have special restrictions)
    • Advertising... We don't want to annoy someone in their 40s with rubbish ads meant for 18 year olds.
    • As an extra security question in case of lost password
So if the information you are providing is accurate, your likely to get a better service. Not everyone is out to get you!

Some people on Pix.ie have given a DOB of 01/01/1901. These people will not have any opportunity to recover their accounts in the even of a lost password combined with a change of email address...

If only I'd seen this post yesterday I might have convinced you to try Pix.ie ... (you get more for free... :D)

Nevermind... Have fun on flickr! :)

In fairness ... you can get quite a good service for no money from both pix.ie and flickr.com ... why would you begrudge giving these people some information about yourself ?
As iampixie points out ... this has a value to the site owners when they go looking for sponsorship from advertisers ... which after all is what enables them to make the service free to you in the first place ...
