What guidelines did they use for their list? Or is it a readers' list?

I think a Top 10 in each position would be better.

    let the arguments start

No Philly Hughes? That list is instantly flawed and therefore worthless.

Quite flawed and english media centric (except owen :D)

G Milito being the biggest flaw

I think English premiership players are generally under-rated in these comps. If you're not English and you don't play for ManU, then you have to be superb to get on this list.

In saying that, saying Ryan Giggs is currently the 29th best player in the world is pure nonsense.

I wouldnt really argue with the top 5, though I'd change the order. Ronaldo is on his way to passing out Ronaldinho and Henry, but he's not quite there yet. Toss up beween himself and Messi for 4th and 5th, but I'd probably plump for Ronaldo. Gerrard and Rooney deserve their places in the top 10, but you could argue about what exact position.

As for Irishmen, I think Given would deserve a place in the top 100. And Finnan wouldnt be out of place in the 80s or 90s.

those lists are always a waste of a good 5 minutes. only one i'd probably agree with is Kaka as number 1.

The shite Pats are playing at the moment, you could do a lot worse than get Anto in to give you's a dig out.

    Beckham better than Van Persie?
    Rio Ferdinand better than Fabregas?

Ehh no thanks, when we languishing in the 1st division maybe then just maybe if we need a complete nutcase who is truly awful at playing football we might need him. But tbh im sure we will find another half decent player from the LSL and when we find out hes not good enough for us, we loan/give to our feeder club ie Dundalk.

Shame we never going to be in that god forsaken place.

As a top 100 shouldnt the top 11 be the best 11 in the world?

    One up one down.

2nd and 3rd in the 1st play off, then the winners play off against 2nd last in the Premier Division.

    Nice and complicated.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 868 ✭✭✭tdv

Its actually the worst list of all time.

Not really it ensures another season in the 1st for Dundalk thus another xmas rampage by one of their stewards keeping the EL in the news over xmas, an FAI Pr masterstroke.

And? Van Der Sar has done nothing to be on it, certainly not ahead of other keepers. Vidic is probably floating near it but if Carragher can only make 97, Vidic was'nt going to get in, especially when the best player in the world ever is at 100.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Nasri is in that list. Crackin little player is that boy.

Dont agree with Sergio Ramos being so low, and with Fabregas rated above Iniesta. But I cant spot any glaring ommisions except maybe Vidic.

    078 Nemanja Vidic

    He's there alright.

    Not much wrong imo.

Giggs at 29, Sheva in the list at all, lack of Robbie Keane on current form and Vicente in there are my only qualms.

Vidic could have been higher. Anyone who says he isnt a top 100 player is either wrong or kidding themselves. Van Der Sar not so much.

What are you talking about? Ronaldo is rated at 50 on the list!!

No surprise there. The list is pathetic, voted, I presume, by 14 year old British readers of the mag. I'd say, in the tradition of Channel 4 100 Greatest lists of the past, they were given a list of 125 to rate from.

Inzaghi so low is an absurdity when you observe strikers placed above him. Love him or loath him, he is lethal.

You do indeed his name is Loew but british media constanly report it as Low.

And its not just a one off thing they always at it.

Being pedantic, technically it's Löw. A lot of people don't know what an Umlaut is for or how to get around it so they just leave it out. I don't think tabloid journlists are too worried about their grammar.

    Just saying like! :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭TonyD79

ye he is ahead of carragher...ovbiously it wasnt just scousers compilling this poll!!!!!! Gerrard would be top 5 if he hadnt had such "non-world class" European Championships and World cups for England. Never has done it for England..unlike Keano for Ireland but I suppose at least he would take an injection and not walk out on the eve of a world cup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

do Utd fans honestly think Vidic should be ahead of carragher?

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

Never mind Vidic, but Carra at 97 and Rio at 24? I know I am probably somewhat biased, but come on!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,096 ✭✭✭An Citeog

The thing about Carragher is that he's never really performed at the highest level for England.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

only noticed that there tbh. shocking

that and the stupid rating of Van Persie and Fabregas, just take away any credibility this thing has :)

I'm a Villa fan and I think he should.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,096 ✭✭✭An Citeog

    Is that a joke?

No, it's the truth. Carragher is a quality defender and suits Liverpool down to the ground. His passion and willingness to get stuck in are what makes Liverpool fans love him so much.

He's never done that for England, though. Maybe it's a conspiracy or maybe every English manager was just completely oblivious to how good he was. I still believe, though, that the mark of truly great players is how well they perform at a world cup. And that's something Carragher has never managed to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

    because. . . . .
