It was also on sky news about banning it today, some eejit was saying they,ve been trying to ban boxing and are still trying and now are adding mma to there witch hunt, Like as if people are forced into the ring/cage and beaten within an inch of there lives-there's way more risks motor racing or horse riding-its laughable-:rolleyes:

Cashing in on 75 this weekend for some cheap publicity to their campaign.....where were they a month ago the assholes?!

I hope newstalk have a broder perspective that the tired "human cockfighting" angle.

I think the fact that they're getting publicity now is due more to the media giving it to them because it's now a timely issue

The main thing that most of these people don't seem to realise is that the athletes involved are highly skilled in martial arts. They always seem to paint it as if it's just some roughnecks from down the pub who are lookin for some blood

In fairness thats at least partly due to how the UFC was originally marketed. It was emphasized as a bloodsport and an exhibition at the start, and its only recently that they have tried to emphasize it as a sport and high skill endeavour. Its gonna take a while for the new image to supplant the old.

PrideFighter if people like Pearse etc. don't go on these shows nothing will be done to dissuade people that it's human cockfighting or otherwise

I'd almost say the Dr was resigned to agreeing with Pearse view on the sports at the end of the discussion. A purely positive occasion for MMA.

They do a lot of Podcasts on that station. If they don't podcast this I believe that they can email you a recording if you ask them nicely. People often text in and ask them for recordings. I'd be interested in hearing it myself.

Very well done Pearse, I think you know you didn't let anyone down. It wasn't so much a debate so much as the Doctor stating his case, he didn't argue with any of your points really, just said his problems with the sport(s) and after you had rebutted him he left it at that. No Debate team whiz was this doctor!

All in all not the witch hunt I was looking forward to passing my Thursday morning at work, but nice to see the truth outed on national Radio all the same
