There needs to be a Thomann sticky thread

In the last 6 months i have ordered stuff from Thomann on 3 separate occasions and each time the delivery and service has been quick and efficient. Packaging is more than enough, with everything arriving in perfect nick. I've yet to hear of any negative feedback from someone buying from Thomann so you should be safe enough.

You should look through some of the threads on this forum so.

I'd have to agree - Thomann threads pop up here with a fair degree of regularity.

OP - I've used Thomann lots of times - they're pretty good. On one occassion they sent my package to Tallow instead of Tallaght, and on another occassion I had a fair bit of hassle with gear that arrived damaged but everything was sorted out in the end.

Thomann - mostly good, occasionally crap
Music Store - mostly good, occasionally crap
<insert random supplier> - mostly good, occasionally crap

If the search feature was a bit better a sticky wouldn't be needed in fairness.

Instead of ordering from Thomann I might suggest trying Music Technology. They are based in North Lotts and basically act as an Irish agent of sorts for Thomann. It means that in theory you can get it slightly cheaper due to not paying shipping, and also that you have an office that you can return goods to should a problem arise.

    Phone number is: 01- 8730305
    Email is: info@musictechnology.ie
    Website: www.musictechnology.ie

Have you any further info on these guys?

Can we please put together a Thomann sticky?

Don't know what else you need. The guy there (Cormac) can get hold of anything thomann stocks (and more stuff as well, he must deal with another crowd too).

I dealt him them a few times back a couple of years. Main advantage (apart from not needing a credit card) is that if a big broken package turns up, the onus is on him to sort it out, and i'd wager he gets much quicker service (with regards to returns) than your average Joe Soap.

    Highly recommend him.

    More or less.

It's a collection service though, not much good if youre in Limerick.

    Yep.

His inventory isnt online (last time i checked), he'll just work the price out while you're talking to him, or e-mail you back.

yeah doesnt seem to be, but if it was, it would be quite the handyness id consider it, and prob most people in dublin that use thomann

Aye, I'm looking into ordering a bass so just emailed him for a quote. I would rather use an Irish distributor than Thomann, as someone pointed out if it's damaged on delivery it's his problem and not mine. Thomann offers free delivery on products over €200 anyway so for a €1200 bass it wouldn't make a difference. Cheers for mentioning him.

Bought loads from Thomann, generally good service but don't try ordering in Nov-Dec cause their logistics turns to sh*t for xmas. But it pays to compare with Musicstore cause they can beat the price on certain items.

I buy regularly from Thomann. Packaging has occasionally been a bit shoddy (stuff squashed in a box that was not quite big enough for it, frayed corners on boxes etc) and stuff has occasionally taken a few days longer than expected to arrive, but I've never had significant problems. Their prices are decent too.

They could really do with online catalog & pricing. I'm sure they'd get a lot more attention & interest.

Thomann (& most other places with large online catalogues) employ several people to maintain the website, write product descriptions & keep stock levels and pricing up to date.

MusicTechnology is one guy in an office with a phone and a computer. An online catalogue is out of the question, the stock range he can get hold of is probably in the tens of thousands of items.

As has been stated already in the thread, his range and prices are pretty much the same as thomann, find what you want there and give him a shout for the exact price.

Aye, his price for a high end Ibanez bass was the exact same as Thomann's. You don't know offhand if his quotes include delivery do you?

t'would funny if when you email him and he just went onto thomann checked the prices and gave u a quote

No delivery, collection only. Mentioned already in thread.

His prices are cash-on-collection. Last time i used him, he needed a 10% deposit for large orders, or if he'd never dealt with you before.

His policies could have changed since i dealt with him, the email address is in the thread if you need any more info.

What I meant was did I have to pay for him to ship the product over.. just wasn't sure. I emailed him for the quote and got a response, so I'll email him on Monday to get the order. Cheers!

    +1

Thomann don't seem to mess up any more than everyone else. I've bought from them a lot over the last five years. Maybe a couple of screws ups in that time. Always resolved in the end.

Can you drop into that Cormac guy or is it phone/email only? Sounds interesting, especially for smaller orders not covered by thomann's free delivery clause.
