Looking to buy a Banjo (my kid wants to learn to play) and I would appreciate any help on what to look for / what to spend ?

Anyone got any ideas / pointers please ?

    Thanks

You'll have to decide what type of banjo you want first of all - four string or five string.

The five string is generally used for American style music - bluegrass & old-time music.

The four string is what's used in Irish trad music and is also used for jazz.

Once you have decided between those two it should be easier to find what you're looking for.

www.folkofthewood.com has some pretty useful faqs as far as I can remember.
