The answer seems to be that 3rd years CAN take 1st year modules. But everyone keeps saying I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,134 ✭✭✭gubbie

No I'm sorry 3rd years can not take 1st year modules. Someone may only take a module from the year above or the year below or the same year. You may only take a 1st year module if its a language

Its one of those grey areas that UCD has many of.

I never got my giro in the post so I had to physically go into admin to get it. I then went to Astra hall to get my student card but I was told by a rather attractive lady that I cannot until I have my fees paid. Kinda sucks doesnt it.

My main grievance is that my blackboard only has 7 of my 12 subjects for the year on it. What should I do?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

Give them a bit more time, some courses may not have been registered etc.

Else email computing services who'll forward on the problem.

Does the 7b go by the campus at all, or anywhere within reasonable walking distance?

I dont have any subjects up on my blackboard but im registered properly. Who can I contact to sort this out?

    Thanks for any help given

I am not sure of my 7's but one of them goes to Donnybrook about 12-18 minutes walk from UCD. Another one goes to Ballsbridge about 20-25 minutes walk from UCD. I get the one of the 10's one of the 46's and the 145 to UCD, I am never waiting more than 5 minutes in the morning.

    Hi!
Could anyone tell me what "week" it is please.
It says on my calendar that it's week 4 yet it says week 1 commences on 10 September! The whole regestration process is really doing my head in!

Well Monday is week one. Every week from there on counts, so the first week of semester 2 is week 20.

    Alright, thanks. Think I underand...
It does say its week 4 though. Anyway, it means I don't have the tutorials I thought I did tomorrow.

Anyone know if you need Student IDs for the student bar tommorrow?

Such is the logic of UCD, 'tis week 4 but really, its week 1. Your lecturers should fill you in on all the tutorial stuff in your first lecture, but yeah...tutorials normally don't start till the second week afaik.

I know someones answered this before but I can't remember what they said.

Anyone know how to check your printer credit from a laptop?

Dammit.... I thought I had mondays free, but i just checked my calendar now and it seems i've been automatically assigned to a practical today.

It was for COMP20010 (Data Structures and Algorithms I think)... Would it have been on? Considering we havent had a lecture yet, like!

Anybody go to it? What did I miss?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 842 ✭✭✭dumbyearbook

GFs sister went to register in UCD today and the English (1st Arts) is full.

How can she get into it?

If you haven't had the lecture it's very doubtful there would have actually been a practical on. I was around for most of the day anyway and didn't see anything in the second year labs, so you'll probably be ok. My guess is that they won't be on until next week after you've had a few lectures.
It can be good fun, DSA. Especially if Aaron Quigley's doing it - his pracs are often interesting and fun to tackle

Basically keep going back every day. There's always a good chance of people dropping out of the course if they get a higher CAO iffer or something.

Just copy it to Microsoft Excel. Change the printing setting to 'Landscape'. Print the document.

Does the 7b go by the campus at all, or anywhere within reasonable walking distance?

The 7b stops right outside the college.

when does the parking start to get better,
I have a lecture at 1 and would like to druve in for it, would there generally be a few coming free round this time? people going home etc...........

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

    Not really.....

In saying that situation may be slightly changed since they've been patrolling the car parks but like the Merville Car parks are full by 9 every morning until around 5 or so. I'm guessing the situation is quite similar all around campus.

Agreed - Aaron Quigley's courses are a lot of work, but well worth putting the effort in for.

Cool :) I had a lecture with him today. He's pretty good! The course doesn't seem as bad as I expected.

Where is the 10a bus stop on campus I know where the 10 is does the 10a go to the same place.

I don't think the 10a stops in the grounds. It comes from stillorgan, as far as I know, and stops at the stop just outside the main gate. As far as I know, it goes the same way as the normal 10 does when it leaves campus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,729 ✭✭✭Pride Fighter

I got my blackboard sorted. A guy called Garrett Coughlan from IT emailed me to inform me he fixed it for me. Fair play to him. He also said 2 of my courses dont use blackboard which I find odd. Anyway I am glad its sorted.

I think the 10a goes to the Stillorgan shopping centre. It stops on the ramp outside the college along with all 46's, 145, 746 etc......

    I think it does...
It leaves from right outside my apartment so I'm gonna hop on it tomorrow and just ride around in it :) Fun times

Warning: the following may be incredibly stupid. Please keep in mind that I'm a n00b international student whose adviser here is a bit on the inattentive side.

Do I have to be registered for the year at this point? Can I be registered for the year at this point?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

You can be registered at this point, you must be registered by september 28th.

However if you're a postgrad, they seem to go badly wrong a lot so it may take more time.

    Hey,
I've got a couple of quick questions,

    1. I've missed my orientation and my first 5 days of college due to illness, will b bak dis mon. Shud i produce a doctors note for the college? Nd can i get all the notes i missed out on?

    2. I'm registered for my course, however i'm unable to register for my 60 credits for the year, i can only get 45 nd dat incudes my 2 electives. It appears my core/option modules is incomplete however i can't select anything else.

If anyone can shed any light on either of my problems it would be much appreciated.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

    1. You don't need a sick note, if you're i a small course maybe go to your year head and explain you were sick if you feel the need, he could also she light on your missing core subjects.

Just print off your notes on blackboard if the lecturer has them up (most do) if not, photocopy someone elses notes. Don't worry it's the first week, you won't have missed much.

    2. As above talk to your year head if you've got one, if not contact your programme office.

You must be registred before the 21st, not the 28th. So the email said today anyway.

Sick notes would only be required if you couldn't do some course work, missed an exam, missed a mid term or were applying for extenuating circumstances. Not needed for a few days absense.

Does anybody else have a message on SIS that their fees are still being processed? There is a different sum of money on the SIS site than what I paid. I paid exactly half of the amount stated on the giro. I also paid the administration fee previous to that so not sure what they want.
