I'm looking for a getaway to a log cabin.. Ideally in a rainy environment, maybe a mountain/forest. It's kind of hard to find these things. Anyone have any ideas? Somewhere in Ireland would be ideal.

Last summer i stayed in Killykeen forest park in cavan, log cabins etc. But would NOT recommend by any strech, biggest dive ever! I dont even know if they are still open.

Ah alright, I'll take your word for it. Any other ideas?

A lot of log cabin holiday homes built up in Cavan recently by the lakes. Can't think of anywhere else although I'd be interested in replies. Somewhere stuck up a mountain away from everything would be nice to get away for a few days.

Yeah - looking for something different clownbag.. Most holidays aren't really breaks, you end up coming home even more worn out.

I'd be happy with a cabin where I could spend a few days cycling or climbing surrounding mountains with not a Celtic tiger baby in site. A nice little pub nearby for a pint in the evenings......bliss.

Would highly recommend Inis Meain the middle one of the Aran Islands off Galway.

You are totally cut off from the rat race - it being an island and all:) :) . Rain guaranteed!! Also many thousand year old Duns if you want a bit of Celtic mysticism in the rain!!

Theres a lovely pub and one hotel and although there are no log cabins there are houses to rent and I reckon it would fit the spirit of what you are looking for if not the precise description, if you get my drift.

Its really small with only 150 inhabitants so you can walk everywhere and there are beaches, long walks amid stone walls etc available.

dlofnep, if you google log cabins Ireland, you'll come up with a good few, there's a place in Wicklow (I think it is) and it has treatments and yoga etc. you can also get married there. Can't find the link though, sorry.

If you are looking for one in Scotland, i cannot recommend the ones in Piperdam highly enough, well if you go for the VIP ones that is, they were absolutely STUNNING! Huge, 5 double rooms (some twins), all ensuite, hot tub, sauna, absolutely fantastic.
