Electric Picnic 2008 tickets

Folks, it might be a bit premature, but would anyone have an idea when to expect EP'08 tickets to go on-sale?

I know that tickets for some other well-known (if juvenile) outdoor festivals which cannot be named here (that whole MCD thing) tend to go on sale for next year the morning after the festival ends. Stupid idea, really.

Any ideas? Before or after Christmas? Have they already gone on-sale & I missed them (hardly)?

I'd say there'll be an early-bird batch pre-christmas and then the main batch will go on sale with the first line-up announcement, around May

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

And this time I won't forget to buy tickets.

The early bird tickets went on sale in February this year iirc, I'll definitely be nabbing mine as soon as they become available anyway:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

I think they'll have to really improve the line-up next year to justify the price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

I think you will find you are wrong. I dont regret one penny that I paid for that festival.

Pretty sure they went on sale before the new year gig VAT came in, they're usually around for people to buy them as Christmas presents

Yea. Mine was 220, but bought another one for a friend that had 199 on it. Assume the 199 was the christmas price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,367 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Assumed correct Ro: maaan!, I got mine pre-Crimbo for the 199 as well.

The festival was brilliant but in fairness the line up was a bit sh1te!

Yeah the pre-sale tickets last year were on sale from either November or December.

They stopped selling them in February, sometime around the 20th-28th I think. I bought mine on the last pre-sale day, there was only a 2 day heads-up on them being taken off sale I think.

And I thought the line-up was the best yet, Smok. Depends what you're into I guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,918 ✭✭✭Terrontress

I have an AIB Gain account so I was able to get mine for 165 plus agent fee and credit card fee nonsense. Probably around 175 all in.

    Get 25% off all gigs.

It didn't have many big name bands, but that's not what the picnic is about. It's a festival in the true sense of the word and is absolutely worth the money. I had a far better time there than I ever did at that MCD 'festival'. I didn't even get to see some of my favourite bands and it didn't bother me at all.
I'll definitely be buying early this time.

Any news on tickets being released??

This is the highlight of my year. Its even better than sleeping with 2 sluts at the same time. :P

What if you got to sleep with 2 sluts at the same time at Electric Picnic? Would that be the bestestist thing like eva?

I would say there will be an announcement in the next few weeks. Their website has recently been redesigned and their forum will be down this week for a while so an official announcement shouldnt be too far off.

according to the (pretty reliable) hot lunch blog....

(As good as) definites: My Bloody Valentine, Sex Pistols (meh), Moby, Tindersticks, Underworld, Super Furry Animals, Fat Boy Slim, The Breeders, Elbow, CSS (now living in Ballinasloe by all accounts), George Clinton and a load of random people pretending to be one of his bands, Chic featuring Nile Rogers, Gary Numan, The Human League, 808 State, The Orb, Franz Ferdinand, Mogwai, Faust, Neon Neon, Jamie Liddell, Foals, Lee Scratch Perry, Baaba Mal, The Wedding Present, Sebastien Tellier, Henry Rollins, Billy Bragg, Marty Mulligan, Saul Williams, Booka Shade, Transglobal Underground, Two Gallants, King Creosote, Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong, Damien Bloody Rice, The Duke Spirit, Crystal Castles, Tinariwen, Red Snapper, **** Buttons, Micah P Hinson, Dan le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, Fish Go Deep, Grand National, Lisa Hannigan, Cinephile, Kings of Convenience, David Kitt, Donal Dineen, Gemma Hayes, Gossip, Plaid, Kevin Rowland, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Two Gallants blah blah blah.

Good Chance: Massive Attack, Paul Weller, James, Bloc Party, Fat Freddy's Drop, Mighty Boosh (they really need to shake up the comedy tent this year and lose Des Bishop et al), Cornelius, Buzzcocks, DJ Krush, Supergrass, The Coral, Bonnie Prince Billy, Notwist, Goldfrapp, Calexico, Jimmy Cliff, Robyn, Hayseed Dixie, Low, Dirty Three...

Long shots: The Cure, Paul Simon, Flaming Lips, Sigur Ros, Mercury Rev, Cypress Hill

nah dunno what your all excited about, i've been to the last three EP's, and they're great fun + some great acts. But its just too expensive over all. Between ticket prices, travelling, food, drink and extras...its alot of money. One could go to a 5 day festival on the continent for nearly the same! i've been to a good few foreign festivals now and they're much better craic + you dont see football jerseys everywhere! ha ha ha!

SEE THE WORLD PEOPLE - THERES WAY MORE/BETTER FESTIVALS ACROSS EUROPE

I'm not buying a ticket im going to try to get one for nothing. I'm still deciding if i'll go or not. It was ****e last year. The crack was good but i can have that crack with my mates any weekend of the year. The music is just not good enough and by the looks of the "as good as" line up it wont be next year either.

I just heard Sigur Rós from a reasonably reliable source.

BTW: ticketmaster is selling tickets from 6pm tomorrow and don't be surprised if most of the line-up is kept back until wednesday week!

For what their charging for tickets, thats a poor line up

Not overly impressed so far but it is still early days. There is a good bit of stuff there U have never heard of that i'll be looking forward to checking out.

Not worth the money at all if that's an accurate lineup.

I'm going to go to a UK festival instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,075 ✭✭✭Denalihighway

well worth it imo - was dissapointed with last yrs lineup but had a blast anyway as usual but if those rumours are true it looks great

for me personally EP is always about quality rather than quantity - I'd rather see 6 or 7 real quality, seasoned bands playing good shows and spend the rest of me time pottering around and shooting the breeze as we always do than one of the other popular festivals which is basically a who's who of NME favourites etc (which can have is its merit sometimes, dont get me wrong)

a lot of people are mentioning that the european festivals are a way cheaper option etc..yes way cheaper for tkts...but surely they're not trying to say its actually a cheaper 'alternative' to EP? Try going to Benicassim or one of the other ones for over 6 days and factor in travel, transfers and eatin n drinkin etc...its not a cheaper alternative, its an alternative though, and no doubt a good one...

sure just go to them all :) better than real life anyways

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 650 ✭✭✭spiderdan

Im still going to go but if that's the line up, I'm very dissapointed, but I was last year and had an amazing time! I think they need to be a bit more ambitious, especially for the price they're charging!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭catch--22

The best thing about Electric Picnic every year is the crowd. Last year there was nearly 40 of us in an extended group. Endless fun. It would be impossible to mobilise all that lot to another festival in Europe. That's why we go.....some good bands....some great bands....and every year you stumble across a brilliant new band (normally near the Foggy Notions stage).

I think it's a strong (potential) line-up.....loads of acts in there that I've never seen before!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

EP has always been about more than the music lineup and I dont mean just getting pissed in a field with friends. Theres hundreds of smaller acts off the beaten track. Musical, Cabaret, Comedy, Acrobatic, Poetic...etc. Its actually a true festival. I think its a bit cheaky to up the price with no real explanation but I still think that its an essential date in the festival calendar and I dont really see anything as appealing at the same time elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭MikeHoncho

I for one am fairly pleased with that Line Up. There would definatly be enough to keep me going over the weekend. Im still holding out for The Knife though (please let those rumours be true).
