Are there enough good games to warranty buying a Wii?

Have a 360 atm and think its the dogs bollox in terms of the number of quality games out on it for a "next gen" console. Was caught up with the Wii hype when it was launched but never got round to buying one but always intended going with the Wii360 combo. So a few months down the road, the Wii is the best selling console but....are there actually enough decent games out on it yet to really warrant buying it?
The only thing that i can see from a look at Eurogamer that is being released on it are all old games on the Virtual Console and a few new releases that rarely even get a 7\10.
So aside from the novelty factor of Wii sports, whats the attraction?

Do you like Zelda? Great game. Apart from that theres not alot so far, maybe trauma centre?

Yeah the first year has been full of ports to be fair but I have faith that the games will come though as soon as developers start mastering the controls just like what has happened with the DS. There are some decent games coming now the end of the year though.+

Few more great games are Metroid Prime 3: Corruotion, Mario Galaxy, Mari Kart Wii and Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. The Wii is worth buying for these alone IMO.

Tons of good games, a good few muck games too, but thats the same for all consoles.
On the plus side you have the aforementioned Zelda, Resi4Wii, Trauma Centre all out and between now and Christmas you have Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, not to mention the likes of Play and WiiFit.
On the negative side there are an awful lot of Minigame titles that don't really do anything for the over 6's, although Rayman Raving Rabbids is great fun.
Also many of the ports from the existing consoles are good also, Godfather blackhand edition and Driver Parallel lines are both fantastic on the Wii as is the Wii edition of Call of Duty 3, not bad at all.
Big ones to come are Brothers In Arms and MarioKart, not to mention updates of Pilotwings and a new StarWars game using the Wiimote as a Light Saber!
And not even mentioning the Virtual Console, Nintendo, Sega, Nec and soon NeoGeo releasing the best of their backcatalogs onto the Wii for sale to download.

I reckon they are pretty good reasons to buy a Wii, don't you?

How many of these have you played?

Yeah, they could turn out to be rubbish, but they're the kind of titles Nintendo simply couldn't mess up. I was never really taken by Resi Evil (and yeah, I know it's non Ninty's own title), but the other three I would probably shell out for purely based on the quality of previous versions.

    No.

There are quite a few promising-looking games on the cards and the potential for much more down the line (if the Wii continues to emulate the DS' success) but that's all whishes and rainbows. Out the shops' shelves right now there are a few gems, but not enough to justify a new console.

Metroid Prime 3 and Zelda are worth the price alone and initial impressions of Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bro's Brawl are very positive. I'd wait until November so you will have at least 3 must have titles (zelda, metroid and SMG which I doubt nintendo are going to make a mess of).

I've bought Zelda and COD for my Wii. Zelda is awesome, but COD had a lot of bugs and I feel was rushed out for launch.
My friends have said that Res Evil is definitely worth the money as is Godfather: Black Hand.
I can't help but feel this thread would have every answer as YES if Manhunt 2 had come out. :(

Zelda:Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario looks excellent[out soon],Resident Evil 4,Res Evil:Unbrella Chronicles[out soon] looks fantasic,Super Mario World[out soon-ish] looks brill,Rumours are the holy grail of wii games could be out in the new year-a star wars light sabre game
But,considering you have the 360 and its line up for the next 6 months or so, I would wait till next summer for a wii-Better game selection, and cheaper

if you are looking for a 'next gen' console that have massive big titles like back to Ps2 age, none of these 3 next gen console can satisfy you, ops,:D at least for myself.

first thing, wii is definitely future-proof,Nintendo will throw out its best franchise series ,lots of them have been annouced or released,if you like Nintendo's games,of course it will be a perfect console to buy.and most importantly, you wont be bored because Nintendo will keep 'warming' this console:
zelda and others few big titles at launch,
    at about april-may,mario football,
summer we have mario party, trauma centre,
and lots big title(as CiDeRmAn said above) from now on till Xmas:)

which is the biggest reason why many of us get a wii very early,we just cant wait want to play those games!:D

anyway, tbh,at the moment, like Op asked,Are there enough good games to warranty buying a Wii?NOW?
my answer is No.maybe till Xmas?thats the point of Nintendo releasing all those games...boost its sales and kick somebody ass...:)

If you dont buy a Wii when Metroid Prime comes out then you dont deserve to even be in the Nintendo forum!!

    Great games I've played:

Excite Truck: Very good game, only bad point is it's short. You'll finish it in a weekend.
Trauma Centre: Only played a bit but if you liked the DS version you'll like this.
Zelda: as already said it's worth getting a wii for this alone. great game
    Metroid Prime 3: As above.
Madden 07: the first madden game that I actually know all the controls for. If you like madden games you'll love this.
    Kororopina: Fun
Mercury: A little bit more of a challenge that Kororpina. very addicitive.
Super Paper Mario: One of the highlights of the console so far and I wouldn't class myself a mario fan.
Mario Strikers: If you haven't got NTL broadband this is a must!!!!

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition should without a doubt be on all these lists. Action-wise, it's probably a bit closer to Metal Gear Solid 2 than the old RE games. Capcom made it clear that this game was a survival action game, as opposed to the survival horror games that the other RE's were. So if you didn't like any of the others, don't lump this one in - it's fantastic. Check out some of the videos on Gamespot.net and you'll see.

Do what I did - look at the list of best selling games , see which games you'd play (take into a/c new versions of games coming out - e.g. on Wii - mario kart, paper mario and super smash bros are coming outl) and buy whichever console has the best games for the type of gmaing you want

The top 2 games on that list are sold with either the Wii or the Wiimote and Red Steel is utter tripe compared to Res Evil 4. It's nothing to do with sales, it's the quality of the game itself. I'd advise people to check Gamespot, as they have their own review, an average of other reviewers' scores, as well as what gamers who've played the game have rated it. Or else try Metacritic or something.

Smash Bros looks incredible! And the news that Red Steel 2 will be multiplayer online is great news too, the original Red Steel not such a bad game, just crippled by being 1st out of the gate.
Resi 4 is great but if yo have played it all ready there is little reason to play it again.

If you're coming from the 360, I would say "No, it's not worth it".
I got the Wii pretty much at launch here in the US and I've hardly played it.
After the initial buzz and excitement wore off, there simply wasn't enough to keep me playing.

I got Zelda, would consider myself a fan of Zelda games but just can't seem to bring myself to sit down and play it.
I got Madden 07, while EA did a great job on the controls with no online play it's simply gathering dust.
I got Trauma Center, sure it's fun but it's also gathering dust.
    SSX Blur? Gathering dust too.

If you've got a bunch of friend's who are going to be coming over then games like Wii Sports, Wii Play, WarioWare and Rayman can be good craic.

I've gone the opposite direction to you, I recently picked up a 360 and I've played it more in the last month or so, than I've played the Wii in the last 9/10 months.

Coming from Xbox Live to Nintendo's practically non-existent online setup is also going to be a huge disappointment.

People are reeling off titles of games that aren't even out yet, saying how great they are. They have the potential to be great sure but let's reserve judgment until we've actually played then, shall we?

For me the Wii hasn't lived up to the hype so far.
Maybe Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart will change that but for now, it'll continue to gather dust while I play my 360.

Thats funny, because in my case its the 360 gathering dust while I play my Wii, and my PS2 as well.
At the mo I am playing Metroid Prime 3, Trauma Centre and Super Paper Mario and they are pretty bloody good.
Unfortunately the likes of the PS3 only has great games that have yet to be released and the majority of 360 releases, while enjoyable, have conjured up very few "classics", none without their critics.
Too many of the PS3 and 360 titles are just a case of next gen graphical polish on existing game templates, Prey, RidgeRacer6/7 etc.
Sure there have been blips of interest, Lost Planet, PGR3, Bioshock but overall no games you can see yourself playing 10 years hence.
The one area Nintendo are messing up is online, they have a lovely machine, installed in millions of households worldwide and, yet, they fail to capitalise on this with some online gaming, Animal Planet, Metroid, Mario Tennis, all IPs that would really sell as online titles, yet so far only Mario Strikers is the one lonely game that can be played competitively online. A great shame and hopefully one to be corrected in upcoming releases.

I just got Madden 08 which has online play and it's really really good.

Ah, I'm not even a huge fan of American Football, I really just got Madden because it was supposed to be one of the better launch titles, which it was.
I wouldn't really be all that bothered with '08 now.

There are plenty of games on the Wii that are rehashes too except they don't even have the graphical polish, just a dodgy control system most of the time.

Personally, I'm not interested in playing a game 10 years down the line. If it's good now, that's all that matters.
The things that make a game for me are the online features.
I want my games to have multiplayer and/or co-op story mode.
That's what gives a game longevity for me.
I like the interaction with my mates when we play co-op Rainbow Six or Gears, and general multiplayer is always hilarious.
I tend not to replay the single player mode of a game unless there are distinct separate story paths that I would be missing out on otherwise.
But hey, that's me, each to the their own.
