    Hello all,

I posted this elsewhere, but think someone might be able to help me here. I'm trying to record from my sky+ box to my dvd recorder (argos mikomi cheap one.), but I keep getting signal protected, and it won't record - and i'm not recording sky box office or anything like that, i'm trying to record living and rte. The dvd recorder does work because I can record from our own terrestrial tv aswell as the sky demo channel!

Any suggestions on how to get it record welcome.....

Hey alowe. Best bet is to record it on Sky+ first, then record it to your recorder afterwards with the red button in your planner guide. Works perfect everytime, use it myself for films and series. Only thing is that it records live time to disk so maybe do it at night.

Well, we have this slightly resolved now. We were recording via Scart - nothing wrong with the way it was set-up, but everytime we tried to record a channel other than the demo channel, we got 'signal copy protected'. Btw, didn't matter whether we did live televison, through the copy function, etc.

So we rang Sky - and after quite a few 'turn off sky', 'remove card', 'turn back on again' - and some signal they sent the box, we eventually got it to record live tv again! Yeah.... However, all the stuff we had previously recorded on our box can't be recorded to dvd as its still signal copy protected - but at least future recorded programmes will be able to be transferred to dvd!

moral of the story - check that you can record from your sky+ box before you fill it stuff you want - and ring sky when all else fails, as it can be a problem with your card.

The only thing I can see that worked with that procedure, was the power cycling of the STB. Their signal-sending magic is usually just to get a person off the phone :D

Does your dvd recorder have a rf input if so use this feature..

Honestly, their magic signal did work - i swear - it did, it did, it did!

Nah, seriously, we've powered on and off the box numerous times, as well as removed the card numerous times previously. I'm thinking maybe they sent something to update the firmware or something like that.

Yip, dvd-r has rf input (which we actually tried to record, but got the signal copy protected crap). Is the RF better quality than gold plated scart? Thankfully both methods work now (apart from the 20 episodes of New Yankee Workshop that my beloved has recorded to the HD that can't be copied to dvd, so will forever live on our sky box .... roll on re-runs!)

Scart will give a better picture and audio quality than the RF.

The only "copy protected" output on SKY would be the premium box office channels which are Macrovision protected to prevent video and DVD recorders from recording the box signals.

I have never had any problem recording output from the SKY+ box SCART outlets. Your DVD recorder must have some other issue which is preventing recording from the SKY+ box.
