    Well if you plan on getting a new car then don't get it fixed but if the car has served you well then repair and sell it on if you don't want it any more!!
    Without the gasket done you would have to give it away. With repair if it has NCT you could get about 1000 for it!!

    just though it seemed a bit steep.

    any idea what the process is? does the engine have to be removed to replace head gasket? engine block seperated, heads cleaned, gasket replaced...

    @johnny. 1000 is awful steep for a 94 colt. if it's a 1.3 which I'm guessing it is.

    The process for replacing the head gasket is take the head off. remove the gasket. get the head skimmed because it may have warped with any excessive heat, put new gasket on and put the head back on. engine doesn't have to be removed, depending on weather there is any more damage found when the head is off........

    €500/600 for a replacement head gasket seems reasonable. But €1k for a 94 Colt seems a bit on the steep side.

    Unless you have new tyres and have completed other major work on it recently like a gearbox, dump it and buy a newer one, there's plenty around.

    If you have a soft spot for this car, yo could probably get a new engine for peanuts if you shopped around.

    A good second hand engine will cost you about three hundred euro.
    Who is goin to fit it change the timing belt service it and transfer any other parts that need to be transfered.If that person cant replace a headgasket im sure trying to change an engine is well beyond there capabilities.

    On the subject of doing a headgasket on a car that old it would want to be in very good condition and you would be planning on keeping it for a while its probably only worh about five six hundred euro repaired.

    I would think five to six hundred euro for a headgasket is a bit on the steep side for one of those i would normally charge about four hundred they are straight forward enough.
