Felt a bit bad that I had to play with the contrast to get this effect, but think the end result justifies it. Thoughts, anyone?

In fact, I always feel bad playing with shots in post-production, am I alone on this? I guess the only way to toy with your contrast if you're a dyed-in-the-wool film purist was to use different film and paper in the developing stage, making Photoshop the new darkroom, yes?

Taken with my new 30D/60mm macro combo.

I'd feel more guilty about the watermark! :p
Seriously tho, purists are purists simply because the ability simply wasn't there in the past and they developed methods to attain it. Just because its a lot easier now doesn't take away from the effect.

If someone still complains about PS and claims to be a purist I'd ask them would they walk to work barefoot in the snow or take the car?:)

Oh no, the worms, they're everywhere!:D

    Probably... :D

There's no reason to feel guilty about it. 99.99% of my shots have had some post processing, whether it be a simple change in contrast, to changes in colour, perspective, etc etc.

It's all part of digital photography.

As regards film, for contrast, you'd have a choice of film, developer, exposure time, paper, filters for the enlarger, dodging and burning, again developer, and finally bleach...

So there's no reason for you to feel guilty :)

Now! For the photo! I think it needs a tighter crop, to get rid of some of the black space, and crop tighter on his head. Very nice though, contrast works in it.

Congratz on the new camera & lens! :)

I know, but needs must in the world of scurrilous photo-pinching!

Ta. It's one of the things I picked up working in newspapers - photo editors often like a bit of space to run text over, so I tend to subconsciously take roomy pics like that with a view to selling them on later.

I would walk barefoot in the snow, actually. But not because I'm a purist, because I'm hard as fookin nails, wha'.
