Halls of 'Fame'

What is it with all there Halls of Fame popping up all over the place? Just perusing Irish Fighter there and there's more Halls of Fame going on in Irish martial arts than there is training! Most of these Hall of famers i've never heard of... A new ego soothing fad? or do they have a place?
