I'm sure there's software you can get for OSX that will allow you to adjust fanspeed on the fly....like speedfan on windows, that way rather then OSX controlling the fan speed based on temp you can just set it to 100% yourself.

Might save you trying to replace the fan :)

I know I have posted this about a million times but my previous MBP was quite possibily the noisest machine on the planet. I couldnt afford to be without it to send it for repairs so I just had to live with it. Eventually though, as I have posted before, I got some sort of control over it using fan software, and a cool notepad stand, later using Cool Feet for when Im on the go, it really did improve things alot.

Current MBP doesn't even get warm, still using the Cool Feet though, great for the old ergonomics! ;)

What are you not running so that it doesn't get warm? I bought my first ever mac, a mbp arrived last week.

Best computer I ever had but theres no denying it gets very warm even just browsing the web and listening to music.

A little off topic I know, but the only other thing I don't like about the mbp is the touchpad. Even with 'ignore accidental input' off the cursor doesn't respond to small movements. I've tried iMouseFix which helps a little, but it still frustrates me. Any tips?

Which model did you go for?

Got the lower end 2.2Ghz model. I say lower end, but its no couch potato! And the price for the 2.4Ghz seemed to be a big step up for modest increases in speed and hard drive size. From reading boards.ie it seemed the consensus was to purchase your own ram and harddrive etc.

I increased my processor from 2Ghz in my old model to the 2.4Ghz in this current model. I run alot of intensive apps and this machine just handles that where the other one struggled! Im certainly not NOT running anything if that makes sense, the opposite in fact.

My old machine could not handle Adobe Lightroom running as the single active app for example. This machine can have Lightroom, Aperture, Photoshop, Camino and iTunes all worklng quickly, happily and cooly together! Very very happy with my move.

I downloaded a dashboard widget that reports back all the temperature sensor readings. General browsing and internet usage gives me a high of about 62-63.

More intensive things like rendering in blender and I've got 74, with the fans blowing their hearts out.

So long as the case doesn't deform or something it doesn't bother me!!

    I'm using iStat Pro.

It monitors fan speeds too which is cool.
