Thanks for that you have put my mind at ease, I will go with the BG/E2N

The BG-E2N seems to be hard to come by.
The BG-E2 will fit in the 40D though.
It should be fine for normal use.

the BG-E2N will be weather sealed the same as the 40D
I would seem pointless to put a BG-E2 onto a weather sealed body and have the batteries exposed to all sorts

Just bought mine the other day and awaiting for it to arrive. The Battery pack seems very slow coming on the market

Welcome along Steely, didn't know that about the new grip, I was just going to swap my old one from the 20D onto the 40D (if I ever get one).

I haven't heard about the battery pack, do you mean the two BP 511

I wouldn't get too excited about the weather sealing. It's just a bit of rubber that helps keep moisture & dust out.
I don't have weather sealing on my BG-E3, yet it survives perfectly on the rain drenched football pitches.
The BG-E2 will work fine, for normal use.

With the weather sealing on the 40D, it seems that the battery and memory card sections are "weather sealed", but the buttons may not be.

No matter, I'd still do all I can to keep it out of the rain and away from the usual dirt and dust.

The WFT-E3A wireless transmitter goes with the 40D but I haven't seen them for sale on any websites yet.

That's the long & the short of it, Paul.
Keep your camera away from rain & dust.
I have the Aquatech SS-300, which does a great job.
