This is the next installment of the Sim City Series.

What do ye think? I like the idea of how different values would effect the development of the city - it would embue the game with a greater sense of history. Not so sure how I feel about the simplified transportation systems - just "dirt roads, paved roads, and bus stops", according to wikipedia. I'll miss my elaborate rail and highway networks!

Is it a linear descendent or a spin off? The guys EA have handed it to Tilted Mill, did Children of the Nile and Caesar IV. Both games had "something" and were interesting but had a fair few flaws. They held my interest for a while but neither really gripped me like I expected them to.

I've been playing SimCity since the first one. I don't know whether I'm happy about the changes being sounded (simplified transportation network?!?). I'm really not sure if this is going to be SimCity in anything but name really, it could still be a good game but a different game if you know what I mean. Maybe it's being jazzed up or moving around the genre a bit but it could be "Children of the Metropolis" with the SimCity brand attached to simply bring in sales.

Maybe I'm being too cynical though.

    Hi,

I used to enjoy playing SimCity 3000 on a (I think) Win98 machine, then I had some problems getting it to work with WinXP, I eventually found a workaround.

But, I've moved out of the house with the XP machine and have since got a Vista machine.

I can't get the game working, anyone know how I go about it?

I was thinking of getting Sim City 4 (delux + Rush Hour expansion), does anyone know if that runs on Vista?

    Thanks for the help.

Not sure about your problems there Des :(

I loved SimCity 2000, and had massive cities with fantastic infrastructure. Then I bought SimCiy 3000 but could never get a city running properly at all, even on the simplest level

As for this new SimCity? It sounds interesting to me. A simplified transport system might not be so simple. Perhaps you will have to juggle individual routes so that they are profitible or serve areas properly? Who knows? I must dig out my copy of Sim City 3000 and install it again :)

According to this, it should work in Vista (so a search on the page and there's a list of games that work on Vista. I don't have Vista myself, so I'm not sure, but if you right click on the executable, and get the properties, there may be a tab marked "compatibility" and in that, there should be an option to run the file in XP compatible mode. I think this is there, but it could of been a dream.

I'll ask around some of my teccy friends and see if they've any ideas.

Yeah, it lists SimCity3000, and I've searched all over the internet to see if I can get it working, and I've tried a number things, including what you have listed below.

Or were you talking about SimCity 4?

That was thw workaround I was using for XP! Running the exe in compatability mode for 98

Not a dream, that is there.
