    Just got this yesterday.
I got the athlon X2 version.
I also got the 9 cell battery.

Anyway its a very nice laptop. Well put together, running vista business
The battery life is amazing. Over 7 hours when fully charged is what Windows tells me.
It was on from about 9 last night to 3 am. It was then used for a further hour or so this morning before it went dead. It was being used on a wireless network for browsing boards etc.
Using it with the dvd drive would use more power but still, over 7 hours battery life. Even when it starts to degrade it shoul give me at least 5 hours :D

It cost €506 and some change including vat and delivery.
    1gb ram
    120gb hdd
    dvdrw
    9 cell battery
    vista business

That's very impressive. It always comes down to the battery. I was half tempted to buy one of those laptops for the one laptop per child project when available to the public -- battery life is around 13 hours.

I read on the forums that the 9 cell battrey sticks out abit from the body of the laptop, is this ture and if so by much?

No thats rubbish. Its not even visible as its underneath the system. Although there is a section of about 1mm or so underneath. Where the battery test button is.

Did you have any trouble ordering this from the business section of the site? Reason I ask is Im interested in getting one of these but they are only available in the business section and I dont have any business address I could use.. do they generally ship fine to home addresses?

No they do not care. I've ordered 2 vostro systems. One desktop and one laptop. No problems with either.

You do not even have to order from business.. just use an e-code and enter it in the home system page. I used pigsback so i could get piggypoints too :D

The bigger the better I'd say.

If you do decide to upgrade the hard drive to a 120GB, I recommend you get this and fit it yourself.

For €615 you could get this:

Genuine Windows Vista® Business - English
Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support
    15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display

I've just checked it again and they've upped the price quiet a bit on that model. I'll try and find another one for arouond €600.

just wondering if dell had a free delivery offer or something on that I just missed........the op seems to be getting the laptop I was thinking of just without the price of delivery(eur50?),

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

Some (if not all) laptops did include free delivery but that offer is now over. They have also lowered the spec on at least one laptop while keeping the price the same.

Those Athlon X2's are like Core duos right? Do they have 2 cores? AMD should just write the bleedin' speed

Yes they have two cores although a 2Ghz x2 isn't as good as a 2Ghz core 2 duo.
