BT Connection Delays...

I moved to Dublin 3 weeks ago, and soon thereafter ordered a BT line, which I would then upgrade to Total Talk+Broadbad. Now, after 2 weeks of the order being live, they tell me it could take 6 weeks to get the phone line activated because an Eircom engineer has to enable it since it wasn't in use before. That's pathetic, and isn't what they told me when I rang. So here's a few questions:

    - If I get Eircom to connect my phone line and then immediately transfer to BT, will that work, or does Eircom have a minimum connection period?

    - Any suggestions for an out of the box broadband solution for the meanwhile? IBB has a 6 month minimum policy, and I only need it for the next month or two.

The irony is even after the phone line is connected, I have to wait another 2 weeks for the broadband apparently. What a joke!
