Problems getting BBC/ITV channels

Living in Cork, got a dish in Lidl and installed it on the roof taking due note of alignment and elevation...

Have a number of channels up, mainly European but cannot get UK channels - BBC, ITV, etc. I'm getting 85% Signal Intensity / 78% Quality reading for Astra 28.2E on TP 3/108, TP5/108, TP6/108 but 73% / 14% on TP 1, 2 and 4/108. Have tried numerous settings and tweaks but no joy - can anyone suggest a solution please?

95% chance you're on the wrong satellite! Astra 1 cluster at 19E uses the same frequencies for the most part, and has European channels whereas Astra 2 has virtually no European channels, but has the BBC/ITV.

I agree , you are pointing at astra 1 most likely

Thanks for the comment. I'm using the 'beeper' sat finder that came with the system and have only picked up one signal to the south east. When I move left (east) of that the signal drops to 14% on all TP Index settings. Thats why I thought the alignment with good signal on TP 3, 5, 6 etc would be the way to go - obivously not.

I think I'll have to get a professional to set it up.

I got that dish in LIDL yesterday too and also set it up last night. I didnt change any of the default settings on it and just turned it on. Immediately it picked up a thousand or so channels off the hotbird satellite but no matter what I do or where i point it I consistently get an intensity reading of between 60 and 80 percent but my signal quality remains constant at 14%.

I am trying to pick up the Astra 19.2 satellite. Any tips or settings i should tweak?

can you actually see the pictures from the box?
its probably just the preset list you are looking at.
I am not faliliar with that box, but i assume you can change the selected satellite by pressing a "sat" or other similiar button, and change the selected satellite to Astra 19.2. you will then have to align the dish to look at that satellite.

    Hiya

yes i have selected the Astra 19.2 Satellite and it shows you strength indcaiors which stay at between 65 to 80% and the signal quality indicator which doesnt want to budge above 14% so when I do a scan it doesnt find any channels presumably because the quality is too low!

I can move it and scan the Hotbird and pick up channels no problems.

Just wondering if you have any hints or settings I should change or try!

I think that you are pointing towards the wrong satellite that happens to have the same selected frequency as the transponder the box is looking for on Astra 19.2

I got my kit yesterday also. Currently have the dish attached to a 6 foot high piece of wood propped up against my house. I can still get Astra 2 though which is surprising to me with the dish being so low and houses and a shed being in the way.

N.B. FilmFour's really gone downhill these days.

I had the exact same problem last july with same system. Posted the same problem on this site. I had my dish fixed to wall at ground level too. I had a clear line of sight for Astra 19 (all the foreign languge channels) which gave me a "false" reading on astra 28. It was very frustrating. My biggest problem was a tree was blocking the astra28 path. I had to move the dish to the roof. I was advised that the astra 28 satellite is about 3 degrees left of your current position for astra 19. I suggest you put a mark of some kind on the dish arm locating astra19 as a starting point and slowly move to the left. It took about 3 minutes to get astra 28 when I did this. Have enjoyed the bbc etc. since then.

Finally got Astra 2D with UK channels - the problem was sorted by getting a better Sat finder with variable sensivity. The finder that came with the Lidl set would only pick up the strong signal from Astra 1 and didn't 'see' anything else but by adjusting the sensivity setting on the new finder I was able to lock onto Astra 2D with ease.

thanks for all the posts and help.
