guys just some advice if you can, was doin a bit with my mp5 k which i have only charged once since i recieved it, then i noticed i couldn't select semi only full auto, then i noticed the top rail was getting HOT:eek: took the battery out and it is HOT, just prior to this it refused to fire at all, just clicking from the trigger, guys is this normal? are the batterie just flat and need a charge? and guess what my M4 did practically the same thing!!

rof dropped off then it refused to fire (clicking from trigger) battery also hot in it as well:( is it just me, or have i done something wrong or is this normal? I haven't put them back on charge yet and will wait for any advise you can offer, thanks in advance, as you can probably guess these are my first AEG'S and I would be well p**ssed off if I have killed them already, only have em a couple of weeks.:o

getting worried now...no replys... will i be AEG-less?....ohh nnoooooooo:(

Sounds normal to me. When you charge or discharge batteries quickly (like firing the AEG a lot), they heat up quite a bit. The ROF dropping and then the AEG not firing at all, simpy indicates that the battery was depleted. Recharge it!

Nothing to worry about unless the battery gets so hot that you can't hold it.

i use one of those exact batts in my tm mp5k.
I would say it is the charger more so then the batts. i have two chargers, the one i got with my CA M15a4 from ASG and another i cant remember where i got it from. the ASG one works fine and the batts never overheat and it has the red/green light and a discharge function.

the other one i hate using as the batts do get charged but there is no indicators and the batts get very hot very fast. one got so hot it melted the shrink wrap around the batt.

Lol ok thats never happened to my battery its just been pretty warm to touch everyonce in a while

Wait what type of charger have u got does it have a decent discharge setting? make sure it is set at the right amp setting?

i have absolutely no issue with acm aegs...but the wall chargers are a bit of a joke. i see JG is now beginning to ship without batts and charger...so they are moving up the value chain.

when i wanted to charge my agm m14, i could see heat waves rising off it and it got very very hot. i cut the cable (always good to have the connectors) and binned it...

also i hear a lot of people also moan about the batteries but i never had an issue with the ones i got.

personally i would buy a nicd/nimh charger. i think ehobby do one for 20 dollars or so...and someone here had it and recommended it.

Just tested my 5k again with its battery and...nothing! I have two k's so tryed it with the other battery..bingo, looks like a dead un, on the batt that is acting up, the third cell in the row from the connection is giving off heat, so i reckon its a gonner... might try to give it a charge or anm i wasting my time???

well you need a new one by the sounds of it..it should work but the rof might be crap..BUT AND ITS A BIG BUT>...it might not be safe to charge it if its damaged...

i cant remember who here is a battery expert (i think it might be rc_car_fanatic ) you might want to ping him just in case

or check google...so i would not charge it until you get an answer...

have to ask shiva if hes getting in batteries, chargers an stuff..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

well it can happen any of them to be honest...when they solder the tips the batteries are very vulnerable to the heat apparently...

its always worth having a few spares around, for instance on a seperate but related issue, my laptop is one year old and i am getting battery warnings....on battery it lasts about 40 minutes...

so it happens them all tbh.

there is a rc shop on capel street (i think someone mentioned capel st) , they might have one that fits if you are near dublin that is. try and get a nimh if you can...as you dont need to worry about any of that discharging crapola with nicd...just make sure if its 8.4v you get an 8.4v with the biggest MAH you can afford.

i would also plonk down for a charger as well . get a half decent one that lets you charge/discharge trickle or fast charge. i spent around 50 euro on mine off ebay...

    good luck

right, thanks on the advide ni-cad and stuff, no where near dublin so will have to hunt further afield..gonna drown my sorrows.." aah k, i knew him well":(

    i just reread what i wrote...maybe i was drinking...

but to be clear nimh is better then nicd...well not so much better as easier. charging is a complete pain in nuts...nimh makes it easier..

the charger that i have that is crap has nothing on it to change options. its plug in and hope. the good one i've never had any problems with. and it even has a cigerette lighter adapter which is a nice touch.

BFSL has batteries and chargers. was looking last night as i want to upgrade to a 9.6v and the prices arent bad.

I have the cheap chargers. I work out the charge time needed using this xl spread sheet which is just basicly the formula that is up here some where. Plug the charger into a timer set it for the correct hours and away I go. Just put into the box the mAH of your battery and the mA of your charger and you get your charge times.

But would I be right in saying that if a miah is half discharged and you are using a delta peak charger (ie one that cuts down to trickle charge when charge is complete) there is no need to discharge it?
