Mymail thinks IRCSET are spammers

Important for anyone who has applied to IRCSET, Mymail thinks emails from ircset.ie are spam by default, regardless of content. I just had a lucky escape a minute ago when an email informing me of a problem with my application ended up in the spam folder.

    So check your spam folder.

Appreciated, I'll keep an eye out. You know when they announce the results? I'm not hopeful at all really, my application and results aren't up to scratch, but I'd still like to know.

This whole 'Why has my important e-mail gone into Spam?' problem appears to be an issue related to the switch to MyZone. It appears that the combination of College's own Spam Filter and the inbuilt one as part of GMail is causing a lot of problems. Especially if the e-mail was sent to more than one person. Even if you get e-mails that are perfectly legitmate (though, you could be a genuine Rolex re-seller, I'm not casting aspersions) they seem to go the void that is the Spam folder.

Would you mind forwarding the addresses to me? Obviously not the e-mails as tthey're personal messages and it's none of my business but just the address would be great. I'm building a list of addresses that MyZone is just 'junking'. I've had a meeting with ISS about it and they said that if they had a list of e-mails that were just going into Spam then they could examine the problem thoroughly and fix it. They weren't aware of the scale of the issue as nobody was reporting it. So, this is where me and my 'Sleep? What's a sleep? Oooh, coffeee!!!' lifestyle might be handy. God, I'd love a cup of coffee right now...

So, if you'd like, send on the e-mail addresses that go straight to your Spam (the legitmate ones only obviously) to education@tcdsu.org. Then, I can mount the Steed of Righteousness and vanquish the Spam Monster of Doom! (No, I haven't slept much recently. Why do you ask?)

22nd of september afaik maybe Ian can shed some light on it.

As for the spam filter, the problem isn't the layer of spam filters as I've been forwarding trinity mail to gmail for years without a problem. The problem is with the setting on the tmail spam filter. The policies are either not set or too tight. It blocked ircset.ie which is a fully fleged registered irish domain name, that shouldn't be getting blocked.

    1) I've found emails from microsoft.com have been junked a fair bit even though i've been telling it not to. SUSPICIOUS GOOGLE.
2)dtts.ie - the driver theory test people.

In all actuality, they shouldnt be blocking .ie's for spam all that tightly - the IEDR would rip someone a new one if spam starting coming from a .ie address iirc.

Thanks, and agreed. What's worse though is that it even blocks mail from its own server. I recently complained to ISS that messages I'd send to other trinity students would be put filtered into their spam. A little ridiculous...

    They're reply anyway:

Re the matter of legitimate email being deemed spam, this is indeed something we have raised, as a high priority, with the suppliers, and hope to have a resolution soon. Until then the only advice is as per the relevant question in the FAQ http://www.isservices.tcd.ie/email/myzone_faq.php

Facebook notifications also get junked for me... a little annoying, even though, like crash, I've ticked every last one as "Not Spam"

I've just given up and started reading my spam folder now. its my only option after I missed an important conference call and nearly missed a meeting I had to attend thanks to the spam folder.

Ditto. Report Spam is a waste of time. And it really needs a whitelist (like the old SpamAssassain system. Never had so many important messages going into Spam folders (and yes, the Facebook notifications all go there too ;)) with any system I've used before. Like Çrash, I'm checking the spam folder all the time.

Not at all, plus not everyone has a facebook (yet), so it's still useful for keeping in contact with the masses.

This has actually just improved a bit, even since lunchtime.

One of my Bebo service messages got through, as did the ticketmaster newsletter which usually got dumped in the spam box.

Not sure if IS Services did something or if it was by incessant clicking of the 'not spam' button.
