    hi all!
i have heard from a fellow work-mate who is Polish that when he started work in Ireland he was allowed to earn for a year tax free( a kind of helping hand up for our less well off foreign workers).
Can anyone confirm, as I recently got married to a foreign national and I would not mind applying to see if we/she is elegible.
    thanks
    john

Everyone has to pay tax but that gets me puzzled, why don't I?

was it just a misunderstanding. You have tax credits for the whole year but if you only start working a few months before the end of the tax year you still have all those tax credits...

My wife is polish and has been paying tax since last 2 years.

The only exemption is that polish people cannot claim any benifits in Ireland without working and paying tax for a period of 2 years.

not just Polish people...I don't think any non-tax paying not-yet-resident can claim benefits straight off the boat...The 2 year rule applies to everyone.

And everyone has to pay tax - there's no such thing as helping our "less well-off foreigners"...that's bull.
