John Finnerty must go

Does anyone else here find RTE news-reader John Finnerty absolutely infuriating to listen to?

I don't usually go out of my way to watch RTE news but when this guy is on I just have to switch off. While I think his voice has its charms, he tends to emphasise the most inappropriate words and deviates from RTE's usually stiff upper lip coverage by injecting faux emotion into sad stories (a la TV3 news).

I don't think me complaining to RTE will do much good but if we can get enough signatures....

I was thinking the same as I watched the 9 news this evening. Still, he's better than Eileen Dunne. She's always getting mixed up live on air. Not good.

I don't visit the News&Media board often, so I suppose you all know the RTE News team has it's own bebo page. Reaching out to the youth audience & all that

I remember watching him at the start of a 1 o'clock bulletin on RTÉ1, and he was shouting out the headlines, with an upward shreik at the end. I was thinking at the time.... tf? Maybe he was appealing to the post Telly Bingo audience... (cue Not the 9 o'clock News sketch!)

But that is the only time he has annoyed me. He's got clear diction, fairly unflappable.

Still not a patch on Michael Murphy, though.

I just noticed the other day how much he shouts. Doesn't necessarily annoy me, though.

That RTE News Music Playlist is inspired, incidentally. I can remember 1994 onwards :D

    Input from Donal! :p
Anne Doyles old face broke my telly.

As for Finnerty (age 83) his facial hair is proberly the most offensive thing about him.

    Mike.

Nobody else finds him annoying? I guess I'll have to write my indignant letter to RTE without a signed petition.

Finnerty's pretty good, reads with clarity and handles the occasional feck-up fairly well usually. Hadn't noticed his 'shouting' but I suppose there is an element of it there. Doesn't stand out enough for me to get worked up though.

Poor Ken Hammond. Only four comments on his bebo :D
