i will most likely be getting ilfe 08 soon.

But as far as i can see (youtube) people don't like the new imovie.

Apple have offered a download of imovie 06 to people that bought ilife 08.

Now my question ---- If i wait a few weeks will apple bring out a new ilife 08 with a better imovie?, how do apple roll here?, what have they done in the past when they have had problems like this ??????

another question thats on my mind ( it may sound stupid, but i ahve never come across this situation in my life) ---- When one is upgrading to Leopard from tiger will some apps be affected and will one have to download them onto the computer again ? Is there anything funny i should know about now ?????

I got two Power Macs in work last week (Dual Quad Core, yummy) and they had iLife '08 preinstalled.

I had a quick go of iMovie '08 and it is completely different... I can't say I like it as I thought the old iMovie was a very well designed piece of software... Maybe I just need give '08 more of chance, but I really don't like the look or feel of it.

It's a complete redesign of the software, so I can't see them peeling it back any time soon.

Upgrading the OS shouldn't cause you any problems though.

they said if the features are needed in the future that they will add them by updates.

imovie has been redesigned as the felt 07 was too complicated and wanted to make it like iphoto is the apeture...

it wont uninstall imovie 07, so i would say run the two side by side.

I was using iMovie 08 for a good bit today and I have to say I disagree with the reviews, I actually like it. I prefer it to the previous version, the interface is better and it is far more intuitive and more "Apple user friendly". It's all about personal preference and what people are used to, and a lot about what their expectations of the software is. If you read enough negative reviews before you use the software you will start to see things you reckon you dont like, that you may never have spotted or annoyed you if you hadn't read about it.

As for iLife 08 overall - GarageBand - I still hate it!!!! Even though I have had to play around with it for work related stuff. Handy for the average audio user I know, but I can't help being software-snobby about it, it annoys me! ;)

    iMovie, see above

iWeb, improved, new templates, some nice new funcionality but still the same gammy export of files/folders/paths, text to images etc.

iPhoto, not my kinda application either. Few improvements alright, def better than before, I still won't use it though ;)

Ha... well I'd be video snobby.... and I thought iMovie was a great stepping stone for teaching people video editing before moving them onto Final Cut Pro.

But the new version just feels horrible. I haven't read any reviews... infact I've been a bit out of the loop and didn't even know there was a new iLife until I booted it up. I will sit down with it at some stage and form a proper opinion of it though.
