Divorcee Query

    Hi all,

I am planning on getting married next year. My fiancee has been previously married and divorced (in Ireland). Her marriage was a civil ceremony and we intend on marrying in the church. Can anyone advise whether the RC church will have a difficulty with this, i.e. is the civil marriage recognised by the church?

I'd ask a priest but the only one I know is marrying us and we haven't told him (yet).

    Cheers,
    GK

I know of someone in England who has been married and divorced three times but because none of these was in a Catholic Church (two of them were civil, one was in a Church of England) he was allowed to get married on the fourth occasion in a Catholic church.

But things may well be different in Ireland so this isn't a definitive answer.
