Yea I know the title sounds a but odd but bear with me...

I was away on holidays and wanted to make sure I was getting the protein in, so bought a box of eggs - the idea was that I was going to boil them all, then put them back in the box to eat over the next couple of days.

I boiled them for a good 12-15 minutes, then let them cool and put them back in the box.

I was able to eat 2 of them, the rest I just couldn't - they just smelt funny!

Now I love my eggs - scrambled, fried, poached, soft-boiled etc but I just couldn't stomach these with the smell offa them!

Was there something I was missing??? or were they just off?

Im not sure but would eggs not go off quite quickly if you boiled them and left them for a few days? Or maybe thats the way eggs are where you were. Like the way milk tastes different in other countries.

Obviously they aren't going to stay fresh forever, so you need to keep them in a refridgorator. Even then, I wouldn't really eat them after 2 days.
Does this solve the mystery ??

Cold water, as soon as the water starts to boil, i.e. bubbly bubbly, time for 2.5 to 3 mins for soft boiled and 5mins for hard boiled.

suppose so mate, I just thought they'd keep for a couple of days - I think it was only the next day or at most 2 days later.

Well it is cooked food. Uncooked they last for a couple of months. Cooked they will only last 2 or 3 days at most. if not stored in fridge I would say less.

Do you always eat boiled eggs and these ones just smelled weird?
Or, was it your first time eating boiled eggs?

Personally, I can't stand the smell of boiled eggs. Eggs cooked any other way smell fine.

I am an egg man myself.

Ease them into very hot water (not boiling, they'll crack if you put em into boiling water) and precisely 5.30min after the water starts bubbling I fish them out of there. Keep em in the fridge for 2-3 days max.

I'd say if you were boiling the poor critters for 12-13 mins, they were rubbery as hell!

I find there's always a smell off hard-boiled eggs after a day or two. They're not "off". And it's not a nice smell either.

Where are you getting you eggs, usually its just over 3 weeks before the run over the best before date:confused:

They do. I boil about 5-6 (I only eat they yolks of 2 of them though) and have them as my second meal of the day. I usually just do it the night before and stick them in the fridge, and yeah, they come out with that strong eggy smell. But they're good, they're quite tasty and they're a f**king savage source of protein.
If you can deal with the smell off them, then I'd advise eating them.

    Here's the reason: http://www.abc.net.au/spark/smelly/whats/e.htm

Just keep the eggs in the fridge and boil as you need them

Hi, how many eggs a day would most of you eat? I have 2 or 3 boiled eggs when I get back from the gym. Is that to much?
My parents keep telling me to stop eating so many because of cholesterol.
Id cut down if they are actually bad for my heart.

    Thanks

Recent studies have disproved this, as long as you are burning the cals and not sitting on the couch munching threw 20 at a time then eggs are great , the main reason why so many bb’s eat more whites than yokes is simple 100g whole eggs = 150 cals and 12.5g protein (&10g’s fat) 100g egg whites = 50 cals and 10.5 grams of protein , this morning for breakfast (pre work out ) I had 400g’s of egg white’s blended with 80g’s oats and cinnamon , I cooked it like an omelette but it tastes more like a pancake , the great thing about eggs is that they are so versatile ,studies have also shown that the body tends to use the egg rather than store it as fat , the yoke it’s self has a heap of good stuff in it normally Id leave one or two in especially if I was making an omelette as long as the eggs fit into you nutritional needs go for it !!!!

Thanks for that man. I know what you mean, eggs are the business. That pancake sounds good, I might try it in the morning.
