Just failed NCT..was told the bushings were bad.

Should this should have been noticed when the car was serviced 3 weeks ago? I told my mechanic the NCT was due in a couple of weeks. I had'nt noticed a knocking sound to the back of the car, which I believe can alert you to this problem.

    Thanks.

a general service will not look for such things as this. a general service consists of oil, filter, plugs, brake pads and disks, timing belt. all thise are listed in the manual and will notify you what is due when, ie timing belt 60k miles etc. if you went for a pre nct then this should have been noticed. this basically is on your own skin and is up to you to sort out. with a worn bushing it is just cracked from wear, it is a visual thing really and you will notice very little with the steering if its just starting to wear.
