hi there, as a Wii Noobe i'm looking for a Wii bit of advice (sorry!)
I haven't used my Wii over with the internet yet and am just wondering about the capabilities that connection to the net brings. In particular i'm wondering is it possible to play Wii tennis against another Mii who's also connected to the internet through a different Wii console. Any help appreciated
    Cheers

A game needs to support it specifically if you want to play online, and Wii Sports does not support any online play. Very few Wii games do at this stage.

Nope. The only Wii game that you can play over the interweb is Mario stirkers charged (at the moment). Other than that there is an opera browser that you can download ( I think you have to pay for it now) which allows you to surf the internet on your wii and you get software updates from nintendo and download old gamecube/SNES games to play on your Wii.

I imagine there will be more mulitplayer games for the wii in the future but nintendo seem to be slow in releasing them.

you cant download gamecube games but there also the news and weather channel and everybody votes channel and next year wiiware which alows you to download other games and i think in two months theres a mii popularity channel

Sorry OP to butt into your thread, but thought it better to do this, than start a new thread.
I too recently bought a Wii and want to know what is required to get it connected to my wireless router. From reading the manual it looks like I need a Nintendo WiFi usb adapter, but that would be fairly expensive I am guessing. Would any old WiFi usb adapter work? How do I confiure the Wii to then use said adapter? Finally once I do get set up with the WiFi, if I don't get the Browser is there anything at all that I can do?
    Thanks
    Dace

If you have a wireless router, you don't need anything else!!! Just go into the settings and set up the connection.

Thanks Guys, you've just saved me €30 or so :D
Why the bloody manual couldn't say that, I don't know. From reading it, it definitely looked like if you wanted Wired or Wireless internet access you had to buy a usb connector.
Anyway thanks for the replies, now back on topic:D

yeah, so far only Mario Strikers Charged can be played online.
I guess some more games will come out with online support soon enough, but dont expect too much - nintendo seem more concerned with things like wii fit than online gaming.

Ah, that's a common belief and/or misunderstanding. There is a Nintendo wireless USB adaptor, but that's only for if you have a PC connected to broadband but no wireless router. It makes a mini wireless network between the PC and your Wii or DS and allows it to share the PC's connection. If you didn't have (and didn't want) a wireless router it's a cheap, simple solution. If you do however, it's as easy as setting up a Mac (that's pretty easy ;) )

You can play Madden '08 online. its a bit slow though. when u go to pass the ball its takes 3 secs to respond to it and by that time u are sacked!!!

I've got FIFA08 on it and it's completely lag free in every one of my games....
good game too, much faster than the 360 and ps3 versions and a lot more fun with the wiimote and nunchuk.
