At least he didn't succeed. A cry for help, perhaps? I hope he gets himself sorted out.

'Sources tell the magazines that Wilson sliced his left wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills.'

Maybe I'm a bastard but I just realised this got to me more than the news of the suicide attempt. Would it be so difficult... I'm on the net far, far too much. Damn! Someone employ me quick!

Edit: I think it should be fair to say I'm a fan. Couldn't help but think of the fact he co-wrote The Royal Tenenbaums which I think is brilliant. A very sombre and downbeat film-
with a suicide attempt. The guy slits his wrists.

Very talented guy... one of the more appealing of the "Frat Pack" group.

And the guy is very talented - co-wrote Rushmore and The Royal Tenanbaums. And always put in a great performance.

As Ruu said, i really hope things work out for him!

Really shocking news this. Always one of the more likable actors around, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for him for his collaborations with the great Wes Anderson. We can only hope he comes out alright, and hopefully we shall see him back on / behind our screens soon.

Never liked the guy untill I saw him in The Life Aquatic, and that completely changed my opinion of him.

I'm not sure what else to say, but that is very disturbing news.

Was reading that Samual L Jackson went to visit him in the hospital and had some choice words for the waiting media "I came to visit Owen Wilson, get the f**k away from me. Why are you guys here?"
When I heard the news I thought they got the names mixed up and that it was his brother Luke, couldn't believe it when I saw it was Owen. Reading through his bio on imdb says he never really wanted to be an actor just a writer. Seems to be in the middle of filming a movie called Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller (who's also directing), Jack Black, Steve Coogan and Robert Downey Jr (not a good role model!).
Hope he pulls through whatever demons are haunting him.

Yeah, I was thinking of this too. It's a very powerful scene. I always wondered if it was Wes or Owen's idea. It seemed very personal. And it was Owen's brother Luke playing the character as well.

Anyway I hope he pulls through.

Looks like he's pulled out of Tropic Thunder which he was supposed to do a two week filming stint on.

Never really liked him as an actor, he always came across very shmarmy and tended to talk through his nose in movies. But his work behind the camera can't be faulted.

Rushmore and the Royal Tennenbaums are up there with my favourite movies of all time. I hope what ever drove him to this act will hopefully bolster him to become even better at his art, and step back from acting and concentrate on being a writer or producer of movies.

Yeah I couldn't believe this when I read it yesterday. The paper I was reading claimed he's been depressed since Kate Hudson broke up with him, but to say that's the reason is just speculation I guess.

apparently it was a meth binge that ended badly and not a 'real' suicide attempt...

A few papers were saying that he became worse when he saw a video on the internet of kate & her new boyf together. More bs probably!

its been repoted in the news today that Courtney Love blames Steve Coogan's hard-partying influence for Owen Wilson's suicide attempt.she really is a bitch looking for the limelight as always.

As I mentioned on the showbiz forum, if Owen is friends with her, it would be more likely that she was the bad influence on him rather then Steve Coogan, a wagon of the highest order that one is

She has some nerve suggesting that - maybe she's just projecting her own guilt from... unghh.. let's not go there right now.

On another note I'd like to take this opportunity to point out how much I hate that fat, pig-nosed little cúnt who calls himself Perez Hilton - the scumbag has been relishing in this news and announced with glee that he had gotten it right on it being a suicide attempt; he then feigned some sympathy for Wilson.

He is the personification of tabloid-pap-scumbaggery the world over.

    *cough*

    I feel better now.

While I hope he pulls through.

I found the actual news article a bit mind scratching
The National Enquirer and Star magazine are exclusively reporting that Owen Wilson tried to commit suicide on Sunday

    WTF?

How do you get an exclusive on a suicide attempt?

Does this mean at some point when he was being rushed to hospital, his agent or someone actual made a deal with some newspaper to get the exclusive?

Well in fairness you can get an exclusive story against the wishes of the subject - what I find head-scratchingly weird about the quoted piece is that it references two separate publications having an exclusive on the same story, which is obviously an oxymoron.

Always got the impression that the guy was seriously bullied in his youth (it's in his eyes).
