Found this website through the bargain alerts forum and they have amazing deals.

Just bought the 2007 Wilson Deep Red Driver which comes with a 3 & 5 wood for just $109. Bought a few other things and with delivery the total was $162 (€119)

looks like there's some good deals on there scout - would you mind posting the full outcome of your experience with them once the clubs have arrived? i.e. delivery time, quality of packaging etc?

i just bought 3 dozen balls bridgestone b330-s, works out less than €30 a dozen, €20 cheaper than proV here, and they're a ball that are difficult to get here, so I'm pleased

ps asked them to mark package as "gift" so customs don't get me!!!

Ordered them Monday night and got an email this morning to say they had been dispatched. Waiting now for arrival but will let you know what happens.

I bought a TM r540XD from them last year for $129 and a week or so later ordered a nice pair of footjoys. It was only then that I got stung by customs for the driver and shortly after for shoes - d'oh! Even still the overall price worked out well compared to prices here. They are a very good imo. Be interested to know if they labelled it "gift" and if it works?? Customs charged me around €45 for the club and then around the same for the shoes.

i've bought from there before also, but if you get stung by customs the prices can end up being the same or dearer as on the web from england..

Thanks for the warning folks - was considering spending about $250, but if customs were to get involved it would obviously erode a lot of the savings. Does anyone know exactly what the customs rate is % wise? and also whether they charge based on the amount you paid for the clubs, or similar to VRT they charge based on the going rate for the same in Ireland?

    thanks

Not sure what the % is but I think they calculate it against what "they think" the goods are worth here. However it's done, I doubt it's very fair. The club I bought was no longer available over here when i bought it anyway.

Also, my stuff was shipped by ups but I got a bill from fedex for these customs charges. I queried it at the time and I'm pretty sure they added on some admin fee also.

Another guy on here reckons if the goods are shipped by usps you have better chance of not being caught out.

The charge on the cost marked on the package

There are 100s of different charges depending on the item, but basically you can pay something like this (not certain on this)

    1) Customs Duty. - Customs duty is calculated by Customs on the TOTAL cost of the clothing. They add together the purchase price, + any insurance, + freight costs. On this total figure they charge Customs duties of 12% for clothing, but duties are different for different items

    2) V.A.T. - After adding the customs duty to the total cost of the clothing, they then add V.A.T.@ 21% on the after Customs duty figure..

some items like shoes have an extra duty, I think you pay 20% extra on them before vat.

I got a cobra baffler hybrid shipped over by USPS and I didn't pay any customs duty, try to shop around to find sellers who don't use UPS or Fedex and you stand a much better chance to avoid the customs & VAT.

I'm heading off to Canada next month actually - should I expect much lower prices on clubs, balls etc? Might pack light and leave a bit of room in the suitcase for some goodies! :)

My dad and I have ordered a lot from there. I found them to be excellent, great clubs and prices. Just keep in mind that you will pay 21% in tax but it still works out much much better. The strength of the euro against the dollar makes it even better.

I have an uncle who buys from that site regularly. I was going to use them myself but I bought clubs from ebay instead.

RE: customs - I bought a new camera for €300 from Hong Kong 2 weeks ago, they marked it as a gift worth $100 on the outside and I only got charged €10 from customs.

If you pop them an email to see if they can mark it as a 'gift' of lesser value, it might be worth it.

    received this morning

36 balls for 86.66 euro delivered, less than 29 a dozen, beats 45-50 for a dozen proV!! no tax or customs, in your face REVENUE!!!

If you're lucky! €54 in most places.

Ordered the clubs last Monday evening - they arrived today. Now I just have to wait and see if there is a customs bill.

Either way can't fault their prices, service or delivery. As the old saying goes, - does exactly what it says on the box!!

Now, I wonder if the new clubs will bring me success on the course! Here's hoping!!!

scout, in my experience you would have received the customs bill on delivery of your item.

looks like you are in the clear :D

No, you will get charged. It was delivered by Fedex right? They will post it out in a few weeks.

    Expecting it alright.

Happened before with a camera - which didn't work and was returned and refunded but I still had to fork out €75 for VAT, excise and duty - and not to mention the FedEx admin charge of €7.50

Sounds excellant Scout. Let us know whether you ever get that customs bill, I take it you're happy with the clubs etc? Considering going for the same Deep Red driver offer now as seems like excellant value, and if the tax bill is only about €25 all the better.

Most of these companies used debt collectors who will eventually take you to court and ruin any chance you'll ever have of getting a decent mortgage or loan in the future. Better to just pay up.

Anyway I was thinking of using this site to pick up some cheap gear. Could anyone recommend a decent bag and a driver?

They look great - heading to the driving range this evening so looking forward to that. Using Callaway all the time - irons and woods so this is a big change but at that price couldn't say no!!

Will let you know about the customs bill.

No you can't as FedEx use a debt collector and if you ignore it they come after you. Not worth messing up your credit rating over a few euro!!

is everyone satisfied that these clubs are the real deal?

I see they've reduced in price further. If they were packaged separately then they would all come in under the €40 target anyway!

scout353 were you impressed with these clubs on the range ?

Yes I was. As I said earlier I have been playing Callaway since I started golf and have a Big Bertha with the fairway woods as well.

The 3 wood and 5 wood reacted very well but I found the Driver a little "whippy"

However it sits well and though I was slicing a few I liked the feel of it. Playing a competition at the weekend and will use them.

Was the shipment marked down as a gift. If is wasn't and it shipped via FedEx you still may get a bill. It can take up to 3 months for the invoice to be sent or even longer.

I would be very interested to see if you get away with it

Got my Cleveland 588 and Nickent 20 degree rescue from FedEx this morning. All looks good. Thought I'd escaped the duty but from what I read above that'll be in the post. Ah well, they only cost 120 euros so an extra 10 or 20 is small price to pay for shaving 10 shots off my handicap ! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,170 ✭✭✭scout353

Yes, the FEDex bill has arrived as expected.

    Duty & VAT €32.42
    Fed Ex Admin charge €10

However, for a total of €120,(€160 for everything I bought from the site) they have been well worth it - I've lost two shots in the last two weeks and since they are the only thing different in my bag, they're getting the credit!!!!!!

The Administration charge is very annoying - in January I was only charged €7.50 on an item that cost over €400. Am going to query this but don't expect much solace.

Just to let ye know, FedEX invoice for duty on my rockbottomgolf order duly arrived so I've been stung for 40 quid or so. Still decent value but took the fun out of it :-)
