1.3 sportif i put a new back box and air filter on it. its done 45k n it cost me £1250. its suprizeing what its like it does 1.6 escorts at trffic lights. it is alot better than i thought it was going to be i think their standard 0 to 60 time is something like 10.5 seconds and i think ive got about an extra 7 or 8 bhp. im quite happy so small cars a cool even though my sister laughs at it but she drives a 1 litre corsa. so more people laugh at her yea im quite pleased and i think the price was fair and after spending £150 just to get a nice tone and to get that little bit more out of it was well worth it.

Your not gonna be well recieved here if you keep talking about doing other cars at traffic lights. Comments like that get starlet drivers a bad name.

Changing the back box and air filter on their own are unlikely to give any significant performance gains. reasons for changes are to improve flow through the engine but with stock manifolds and exhaust from manifold then the gains are minimal.

Starlets and their owners (Glanza for sure) have a bad enough name without it being added to.

This is a forum for modified cars and the reason we modify is we like them modified, not to become a boy racer and "do" escorts at the lights (unless they are staging lights on a drag strip)

    well said okenora

OP just focus on learning to drive and building up a solid NCB and dont throw too much money at your current car, give it over with the whole "taking" cars at the lights, its going to get you into trouble pretty fast and you will be fcuk`d when you go try to buy/insure a car with higher performance.

Other wise enjoy your new purchase

On a lighter note, if my daily driver "did" an escort at the lights it would have to be one of the cosworths at least before I'd even consider it worth a mention, but my other (heavily) modified car (the daily driver is kinda modded too) feels extremely slow. Most the money and effort has gone on graphics and bodykit with little attention to the engine at all (k&n filter and large bore exhaust is all thats been done). Modified is not the same as speed/fast.

In fact some of the best modifieds I have seen would have problems getting out of a wet paper bag and some of the ugliest have 1000bhp'ish (a TT Supra in mind)

I had some tool in a non turbo Starlet driving on by back bumper on Saturday, Maybe he thought the weight advantage his car had over me would be enough to give me a run for my money, in the end I just slowed down a bit and indicated left.
Don't think that just because you can beat a 1.6 Escort off the lights that:

    A) your car is in any way fast

    B) you're able to drive properly

    for the record...
i think their standard 0 to 60 time is something like 10.5 seconds

I think you meant "dream" and not "think", more like 13 seconds, seems like a small difference but in 0-60 terms thats a huge difference.

@op, if you are looking for proven power for the n/a starlet then get a few things like a corolla manifold, glanza s ecu, inlet manifold and injectors. i have all the parts for the s if you need them :D you should see 100bhp dyno proven with those mods.
