In the exact same situation, Eircom broadband and Netopia router, no luck with wi-fi internet.

What you can try is go to start -> run and type cmd.exe

This will bring up the command screen, type ipconfig

This'll give you IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway.

I tried this but still couldn't get onto the net, I'm nearly sure the IP has to be assigned by the router (on automatic mode).

    Lemme know how that goes.

Check your router for DHCP. Switch it on.
This auto assigns IP addresses and DNS settings to all connected devices(wired or wireless).
This makes life a whole lot easier if you are only running a smallish home network.

had no luck changeing that @TelePaul
I rang eircom and all you have to do is
go onto the Netopia Router page where is has settings etc. and from the menu on the left hand side select firewall and turn it off then from that menu
click on wireless this will show you a 26 character encryption key take this down and go to the ps3 and where the WEP option is when you go into internet settings enter this code and it should work

    hope this works for you

Hey I have a WEP key already so I don't think that's my problem. I get to the point where it searches for an IP address and times out...and I don't know what IP address to input manually.

I guess I'll try Eircom again tomorrow.
