Maybe this post is results based but it was the hand that pretty much buried me and want to know that (based on my read) was it the right thing to do.

I'm UTG with ~40k chips (~average) and look down at ATo and raise it to 12,000 (blinds 2/4k) , guy to my left moves all in for 35k. This is my first night playing against him but he's been making very loose calls all night and has only made it this far thanks to busting 3 players by rivering 3 straights throughout the night where he would have otherwise been dominated! He's been calling big post flop bets with small pairs on scary boards. I had one confrontation with him during the night when he raised my flop bet after I had hit top pair and a gutshot straight draw on a 9TJr flop (I had KJo). I pushed all in and he called with a rag queen and an up and down draw which didn't hit.

UTG+1's range is quite wide and I'm more inclined to put him on a weaker ace or two face cards (like QJ, QK, KJ) than a pocket pair or a strong ace. I am prepared to call him.

But while I'm thinking about calling him, the button, a crazy German bastard who just moved to the table once the final table was formed and with a reputation of being a "fishdonk" who called all-in on the turn with 63o and a gutshot draw that hit on the river. He has me covered. It's hard to put him on anything and it's almost 50-50 over whether or not to put him on air or a strong hand. He merely calls UTG+1's raise and it's 23 more to me to call. I really don't like my situation and after much though I fold.

Did I not play this hand aggressive enough? A PF raise of 3xBB seemed to be standard and most raises had been uncontested. My image is probably tight and I've only shown down winning hands. Should I have called even if I thought I was beaten?
UTG+1 turns over QhKh, the crazy german has 9h9d. flop comes AdTs4h.

Don't play tourneys but I think you are just better off folding ATo UTG. Not when it gets back to you, just open-folding. I am open to correction on that though

You have 10BBs, Ship or fold PF. Depending on other chip stacks and payout, I'd fold ATo UTG.

    10 BBs = Shipping time,

Also, you haven't told us how many players are left, this changes the way to play alot. Full table i'd fold AT, 4 players i'd ship it, so nobody can really advise you on the play until you let us know the number of players. I can only assume that there are 8-10 players as the german just moved, so i'd fold pf.

You should never fold this for many reasons. Firstly, whenever theres an allin make sure you know roughly what odds you are being offered. You made a long post full of reads and stuff which is great, but its irrelevant nonsense compared to working out the numbers.

Preflop you make it 12k and the guy goes all in for 35. Now when you make it 12 that means theres 30k in there including the blinds, (he calls the 12, and then raises.) His raise is only 23k more. You are getting a good bit better than 2:1 here so you can call even if you are fairly sure you are beaten. Once the button calls it becomes even more attractive.

In hindsight I did think that I was being offered adequete odds to call and that I did nothing in this hand other than cripple myself but I've only started playing live tourneys lately and have been quite nervous so I'm finding that my maths is very poor at times, especially when calculating appropriate bet sizes but I'm sure that'll improve with time.

With regards to the table size, it was 6 handed at this stage and the top 5 were paid.

Too soon to ship, marginal raise under the gun 6 handed at the bubble. Fold PF pour-moi.
