In the tradition of the recent thread about places to get bargains in NYC I was wondering if anybody knows of any places to get good bargains in Lanzarote. I`m going there for a week on Sunday and I`ve heard ppl say that because it is duty free that it is very cheap esp for electrical goods.

I`m hoping to pick up a cheap Nintendo DS when I am there. Anybody got any experiences of bargain hunting in Lanzarote.

What was so difficult to understand about it?

I see nothing wrong with it, don't bother posting if you have nothing better to say.

I was in Fuerteventura in May and the PS3 was €520 new so I'd imagine DS would be reasonably cheaper, this was in a large games shop.
Are the Canaries not VAT free?

If you are having a bad day switch the computer off, don't just take potshots at people or you may get a bad rep.

Also, avoid any usual electronics, lots of cheap tat from Africa sold there, you would find it hard to find anything worth the money you are paying.

I'm off there on Friday week! :p

Looks like it's just shopping for fridge-magnets and booze in the Duty Free then...

Lucky you!!! You might find that booze is cheaper in regular stores than in the duty free!

drink n smokes. you can get a bottle of gordons gin or paddy power for about 10 or 11 euro. they can be fukcers in lanzarote airport about the weight of ur luggage though. They will charge u threw the nose if ur even a few kilos over the limit so saddle ur missus up with all the bottles of booze strapped to her and yah mule yah YAH her through the airport.

Its not the airport that charges you for excess baggage, its the airline that you are flying with

Some of the electrical outlets are all knock off but they advertise the real deal at low prices to get you in. I got a Sony Discman when they were £100 over here for about the same as €15 over there, he had set the AVL really low and gave a crap story about needing to change the laser glass and the price would go up to over the £100 mark!!

There is 2 or three shops that would do the DS but it will be from the Asian region so be careful about that but they will be cheaper!!

If you need to buy anything electronic or even games, the ONLY place to go is Visanta.

    Two reasons:
    1) Its the ONLY legit electronics store on the island.
    2) Very cheap.

Yeah Visanta is the only reliable electrical store and they are very nice not pushy and just give you the outrigh price
they are always busy so don't need to rely on cheap tricks

Perfume and Aftershave is dirt cheap too.
I found its cheaper in Lanzarote than Tenerife

Visanta get my vote as well, although they didn't have what I was looking for when I was over there.

If you happen to take the ferry over to Playa Blanca on Fuerteventura, there is a small shop (Mundo Digital) on the main strip where I got a great deal on a SE phone. Most of the shops are dodgy and the guys in them are ar5eholes.

Golden Rule about the canaries and buying anything electrical

If your man shows u the price on the calculator get the fluck out of there they call you over and type it into the calculator so no one else sees what price you are getting it for

I love arguing with them but i normally only get games or memory cards both of which i can check there and then

    +1 for vistanta

I bought a discman in another shop once, dodgy, burnt out in like a day haha
and the fellas workin there run outta the shop shouting at ya running after you etc "ill give it to you for 50euro! just for you!" etc

on the flight on the way over last year the hostess advised that the onboard duty free was cheaper than at the resort.....this was bullsh*t...drink was much cheaper there.

Also, get one up on the airline and bring your own headphones for the inflight entertainment, it amazes me the amount of people who pay for headphones.

And P20 suncream was very cheap there, less than 50% off Irish prices.

Bought a camera in Visanta (Arrecife) a few years ago. Was grand - around same price as amazon.co.uk at that time. Looks like they have a shop in P. Del Carmen now. Avoid the other shops on the prom there.

A couple of pointers. Always open the box that YOU are buying. Many shops will show you a real product and sell you a forgery. Start off by telling them that you are there with girlfirend but coming back on stag next month with a load of blokes and will be buying your canon eos 3000d camera when you are back etc so you get good deal now. I personally think that there is so much sh1te sold in these places that you are better avoiding. I agree with the calculator trick. I have gone into shops and told them that I was looking for "x product" and produced a piece of paper with price that you are willing to pay. If he doesnt bite. walk out
