    no it's not common - these cost company a few quid so unless very interested, its unlikely you be asked to go on one. Unless your a professional sports star!!!!!!

    Fairly basic tests to be fair, most American companies are checking your not using Crystal Meth on your cornflakes - main reason for these......

    Pre employment medicals can be used to test for drugs but they are also used to check a persons medical suitablity for a job, e.g. do you have an allergy to penicillin if you are going for a job in a penicillin manufacturing plant:) They are used to inform prospective employers if you are fit for working in the job you applied for. If you are being sent for one then it is a good sign.

    We send all candidates for pre-employments medicals at the company doctor on the day of their interview. The company don't check for drugs. All the roles we hire for require a lot of travel so you need to be fit to do that. That's the purpose of the medical. Very few people fail it. I also know of a lot of other companies that do it. It's perfectly normal.
