Sound Card - Do I Need A New One?

    Hey guys,

My shiny new build is... Well... All nice and shiny :D However, the most dated (and possibly trouble-causing) component would be my SoundBlaster Extigy. Now, before you start convulsing in laughter, let me remind you that it's served me mighty well in the past! Moreover, it's got coax digital out which is required for my speakers.

However, I feel my PC may deserve a *slightly* more up to date sound card ;) So, two quick questions:

    1. How much of a difference does a new soundcard make, nowadays? I mean, obviously it's not going to be the same as a new graphics card, but is must make a *bit* of a difference... If so, how?
    2. Can anyone recommend me one? I've heard good things about the X-Fi range. I'd be using it pretty much for gaming and just some average music listening, movie watching etc. Gaming primarliy, though.

    Thanks!
