Advice needed...

Just looking for opinions/advice on how to handle this situation.

Back in June I applied for a business course but never sent in a signed application form or course fee. The course provider chased me up late week asking if I was still going to take the course, and that a cancellation fee would apply if I dropped out at this late stage.

I told them I was still interested and sent through the completed application form by fax last Friday afternoon, and sent them an email confirming same. The course provider replied at 5pm over email saying the fax did not come through, so I resent it. I still haven't heard if they have received it yet or not.

Now, over the weekend I was chatting to my buddy who has signed up for a different course, and which suits me better than the original course I had intended taking. I now want to take this course instead.

I still don't know if the original course provider has received my application form, but let's say they have. Would they be able to charge me the cancellation fee if I walked away now? They would have my signature on the form but no credit card details etc.?

If the second fax didn't get through (and therefore they do not have my signature) I'd imagine that I'd be ok to walk away from the first course?

Surely it'd make more sense to ring them than ask us!?

Yes, but before ringing them it would worthwhile knowing what people's views here were - am I in a strong position or can they force the issue as they have my signature? The call could get ugly :D

Just walk away from the first course and deny all knowledge of it.

Oh or ring them annonymously with this hypothetical situation and ask for advice.

C'mon, you need to be taking quick, decisive actions if you want to make it in business :p

Yeah to hell with 'em. They'll have to go through so much hassle to get money out of you they'll give up. Just say nothing and don't answer your phone!

Well, if the other course is in the same place, then they could cause you bother.
If not, then i doubt they'll chase it up, but if you ever try to get another course there, they'll probably try and get you then.

Rang them up and the woman I was dealing with is OOTO today. Her colleague said it wouldn't be a problem. Would think that if they do want to chase it up it would cost them more organising a solicitor etc. Cheers.
