Hey, I'm moving into Dundrum soon, and I was wondering do NTL cover that area with cable? There website is pretty useless when it comes to finding a coverage map and I was looking to get broadband aswell so NTL would be pretty handy (despite some of the problems others have had!)

    Thanks in advance

Yes it is covered by cable and some of it is broadband enabled. Can you tell me the name of the place and I may be able to tell you more

Do yourself a favour and keep away from NTL - they are about the worst service providers ever. In fact I'd go so far as to say the worst I have come across in a long time. If you want TV try SKY (ok I know you need a dish) if you want phone or broadband try Smart (and don't believe all the stories you've heard about them) I've got a 4mb line and phone all in for €39 and never a problem from day one.

I've had cable from NTL (and its various predecessors) in Dublin for decades and I have to say there's nothing particularly problematic about them. I have never had any issue that wasn't resolved very promptly and have never found them to be a poor quality service.

I think it's just a case of pot luck, if you're in an area with old infrastructure or if you're very unlucky you may have a bad experience with them.

Also, I used Chorus cable in Cork for over ten years and in all that time it was pretty uneventful too. The analogue cable service was way outdated by the time sky digital arrived, but it provided a solidly reliable service for years.

A lot of the horror stories online seem to refer to Chorus MMDS, which I have no experience of.

No BB in Ailesbury Grove at the moment but its soon to be upgraded. The upgrade is only a stone throw from it. Not many problems usually in Ailesbury Grove besides BBC2 on analogue or old wiring going into the houses needing to be replaced.

Any ideas on how long that upgrade will take? Oh, and thanks for asking all my questions so far!

Not too sure. There currently at Broadford so its not too far away. From start to finish it usually takes about 2 months going by previous area's.

Dundrum and especially Ballinteer seem to be having problems with BBC2 on analogue. I don't know if they've been resolved yet.

The BBC2 analoge problem is due to the RTE DTT trials off Three Rock Mountain. There is nothing that can be don't bar stopping the trial and I don't think that will happen, or at least that's what the NTL people have been saying.

Upgrading the cable system or finding out where the signal is leaking in will also sort it out.

Does that mean that the Digital TV package (if I were to get it) would be delivered via MMDS or is it via the Cable? thanks :)

Its all cable analogue and dtv. No MMDS used in Ailesbury Grove. BBC2 would also be perfect on DTV.

Ding Dong, have you any idea why the upgrade in Llewellyn has come to a halt? Last few weeks they were going great guns and all of a sudden they stopped one road short last Friday and haven't been seen since.

Have they put new links on your road yet. Not too sure why they would stop, possible wayleave issues(people dont want a cable on their house).

They usually run the cable first, then add taps, and finally do all the infrastructure. When all thats done they will switch you on to the new system and remove the old cabling.

Ironically they did our road first, cabling and box installed under gutters on all the houses. It seems odd where they stopped for it to be a wayleave issue. They actually finished off the second last road and just haven't recommenced. You could be right and maybe the first guy on said last road had a word with them and told them not to come on to his property.

I'm just guessing, Its probably not a wayleave issue from the sound of it. They might just be working on the infrastructure(amps, fibre, power supply). I have notice alot if digging near the yellow house. I'm sure it wont be too long before they get back to you.
