Hey I was wondering if any you guys had some good stories to share from past trips you made on your bikes. I'm currently in New York after traveling from San Diego along the I-80 through the United States. It was my first really big journey and I have enjoyed it to the last but I'm currently shattered. I met some cool people from; truckers who helped me when I ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere, to a mad caped englishman who was on his own round the world trip on his bike. I experienced the thrill of riding a bike in beautiful weather on excelent roads and felt the sick feeling in the pit of your stomach that every rider feels when they pass the scene of a bike accident (goldwing crushed by a tuck and a body on the tarmac). Its been challenging, its been amazing, its been down right dangerous but most of all its been worth it. I was wondering if anyone else has some stories to share about their travels or even just good rides (of a motocycular kind) they have had or even ones they are planning.

I drove my Royal Enfield ('03) to the bike show in the NEC (birmingham) with an oil leak that started before getting to the boat in Dublin port.

Numerous stops, every couple of hours to fill up with some 20w50. Great fun though, and the lesson was to next time, take the reliable bike.

Doing the Boyne Riders Irish Photo Rally where you generally meet other bikers and locals in out of the way places for a nice chat, or sometimes you end up in the complete middle of nowhere with no one around and you can just take in the scenery and the quiet...

...and then start up the big v twin and realise that the exhausts are perhaps a tad loud :D

Plenty more stories, just haven't the time to write them all down.

    L.

In september Me and the wife are driving down to Malaga. Ferry from Rosslare to cherburg, then drive through france and spain. Around 2000 KM each way. Problem is we only have 3 days to get down and 3 days back as we've to meet a friend.I say problem because we took a spin down to Rosslare harbour yesterday, which is only about 150 km, but it took us 2 hours (traveling at speed limits and some diversions) and Irish roads. I'm assuming that continental roads will be better, I'm hoping their better, because if we have to cover at least 600km a day it could be 3 looong days judging by our spin yesterday.:D

You'll cover 800km a day no problem on the Motorways over there. The only limiting factor will be your endurance. A complete lunatic might make 1000km a day.

Yes, coming off the early ferry at Cherbourg and staying on the autoroutes it's not difficult to get past Bordeaux in a day which is most of the way down France! I did that 5 years ago (on a CBR600F) and it cost me 13 euro in tolls each way, well worth it for saving at least a day's travel compared to the national routes.

No idea what the roads are like to Malaga but Spain is in the middle of a huge road upgrading programme at the moment.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Well I remember the longest distance I travelled in one day was 800 miles. The limiting factor not being my tiredness but my concern for my ability to walk after from all the ass cramps. :P
