Simple operation I am trying, I have conneceted a small flat panel tv 17" using coax fronm the TV out connector on the back of Sky + box. When I tested it beside the sky 6+ box, picture quality was very good however when I ran approx 5-8 metres of coax and connected it, same tv, the quality had deteriorated singnificantly.

Wouldn't expect that much degradation for such a short run. What cable were you using? It's worth using the best, double-screened cable you can afford. Using satellite-grade cable is a good idea [CT100 or equivalent].

yep I would check the cable type as well, there should be no real noticable degradation in picture quality at that distance. If you are using a pre made extension lead (purchased with moulded connectors) I would suggest replacing it with a hand made lead of RG6 or CT100 as already recommended.
If you made the lead yourself make sure that there is good clean contact of the braid with the outer shell and no contact between the centre conductor and braid.

Yeah, I'd agree with what Conax has said. Picture quality should be good at only 8m run.

some of those cheap thin made up coax extension leads are very poor indeed & even 5 metres could lead to the sort of signal loss you are experiencing. They are also very flimsy and very prone to internal breaks especially where cable meets moulded connector as the core copper is so thin.
If you are using regular coax, check for breaks or shorts in the connectors.

Also change Sky from default of 68 to a much lower free channel. Ch68 has worst loss. Hidden Install menu

Thanks guys, i'd say it ti do with quality of the cable, bought it at a local hardware shop. I did put one of those boosters from LIDL, I borrowed from a friend and it brought the quality up to near perfect. I'd much prefer to do it without the powered booster, don't like to use the power unneccesarily.
