Recently I've been watching Alias on Bravo over breakfast (currently on Season 3), and I've been reminded what a fantastic show it was.

I got through all 5 series a few years ago in a 3 week period. The last few weeks of quality breakfast TV has persuaded me to copy season 1 to my media player and enjoy it all from the beginning again.

    You know it makes sense.

I loved Alias.. Very well written show.. though I was really disapointed with how the show ended.. Think that had more to do with the final season got comissioned for less episodes than expected so the story had to be tied up quicker.

It has been so long since I watched it that I forget a lot of it. I remember the first 3 seasons being great and the last two only average. I think I will have to buy them at some stage as I only ever watched each episode once and probably didn't catch everything that was happening. In its early days it was great though. There were some amazing stand out parts that don't usually happen in most shows, probably because the writers are afraid to make drastic changes.

    For example when
SD-6 was suddenly taken down mid season 2 i believe. This was the main storyline for the show and it suddenly changed direction. Then you had the main charcater's best friend Francie killed off and replaced with an evil clone more or less. Another one that comes to mind is skipping forward 2 years with Sydney having no memory of what happened of that time.

There is a lot more as well, I reckon I must buy them soon! :D

Can anyone recommend a similar show for me to watch when i've finished season 5 of Alias?

Haven't bothered to watch season 5 as I thought the season 4 cliffhangar jumped the shark.

Season 1 and 2 were awesome though. I was actually re-watching parts of season 2 last night on DVD and while it remains an excellent show, it is so over the top. I guess you really need to watch it from the beginning and get sucked into it so that you don't notice.

No '24' is not like 'Alias'. 'Alias' is a far superior show as well and don't think a fan of one would be a fan of the other. 'Alias' is not set over one day, features multiple missions set on a global scale (rather than LA), has much wider and fantastical plots (Rambaldi), has much more focus on characters (not being set on real time and all), and has more humour infused in it (e.g. Marshall). Other than they're both broadly set around Government agencies, they're not comparable to my mind!

I've yet to see a show to compare with 'Alias' in its stylings.

Qwert: Season 3 of 24 was above average, Season 4 was pretty weak, and Season 5 was my personal favourite.

I'm a fan of both but 24, season 6 aside, is a much better show. It is darker, grittier and edgier.

I loved Alias too, so if you're anything like me, Prison Break would be a good move. I suggest watching it from the start, so either buy the DVDs for a lot of money, or find another way of watching them (i.e. borrowing them from a friend. I would never recommend the evil crime of downloading or streaming ;-) )

I've seen it (hope season 3 is better than season 2). I've also watched the usual boards recommendations: a few series of 24, lost, heroes, veronica mars, the unit and i've started watching the wire. they're all different, but good.

I've got the first 3 series on DVD but I heard bad things about the last 2. I'll probably pick them up if I see them on offer somewhere.

the bbc spy show spooks is quite good but not as escapist and fantastical as alias.

Spooks is better than both 24 and Alias, much less focus on action, FX, cheap emotional string-pulling and lazy twists, and more focus on sharp, intelligent dialogue and storytelling. The first few seasons are terrific. Season 5 got a bit silly, with V for Vendetta style clandestine corporate plots to secretly take over the government and such.

I miss it as well. The first two seasons were amazing. I could watch them over and over. Season 3 and the subsequent seasons suffered too much from meddling from the network. I liked some of season 4 (though couldn't understand why Sydney spoke 3 octaves lower in the first few episodes) and I thought after a rubbish start five really took off with some stunning episodes towards the end. The 100th episode etc. were great. I also liked the end, it was satisfying and the left one or two loose ends which I liked.

Actually I thought for the most part the show came full circle and bowed out at the right time. What I miss most now is the cast especially Jennifer Garner who really needs to become a bigger star than she is!
