Have to leave Oz on crutches next week to come home for surgery and have a 14 hour overnight stopover there to look forward to.

I can't sleep in airports so I'm kinda hoping to check out the city. Not sure how else to pass the time.

Does anyone have any information on this place - will there be anywhere open at night, where to get my visa, how safe is it for tourists, how to get around, what the language barrier is like etc.

    Thanks.

I think the shops generally stay open until 10PM ish so there should be somewhere open, failing that all the hotels around have bar restraunts.

Very safe I spent a while there recently andquite liked the place, people seemed generally friendly and I never had an ounce of trouble.

    how to get around
Taxis are probably the easiest and are dirt cheap too.

what the language barrier is like
Didnt have a problem myself, eveyone I met there has a passable level of english, sometimes the taxi drivers didnt understand where I wanted to go because I was pronouncing the name of the places wrong though.
