I see what you're sayin, but I refuse to call Hard-Fi the new Clash, if anything it's a shoddy rip-off of the Clash's style.

But then I really, really, really hate Hard-Fi

They sound a bit like The Clash, but for God's sake, don't call them "the new Clash"!

this should be a bannable offence.

no one who sings about "cash machines" should be taken seriously.

This made me laugh. What a great word that is, so expressive.

got a fright when i saw the title of the thread, if Joe Strummer saw the title he would be spinning in his grave!

i do agree, i was thinking the same thing when i heard parts of their new single, i immediately thought they're recycling The Clash

Well everything goes around in cycles....we were talking about this in the pub on fri night. Some through away comment about the enemy being the new Jam....but not as good. Well I certainly don't think its a good enough reason to write a band off. To be fair poor lyrics and a thinly veiled rehash of older legends has always been the bread and butter of the music industry, I'll at least listen to the new album before slagging it off.

The Clash wrote the greatest album of all time (London Calling) and Hard - Fi wrote the worst (Cash Machine or something). That is the only time I ever want to see those 2 bands mentioned in the same sentence again.

I am firmly of the belief that Hard-Fi have caused more harm in this world than Hitler

s'funny you mention that...they were on the friday night project a few nights ago and the telly was on with the sound down and just looking at them, certainly they're trying to pull off that look...circa the video to London Calling..you've got the singer with the quiff, the battered black Telecaster and the same style BVs of LC on the new single.

don't think they're the new clash or anything, but then I notice you didn't say that they were either, despite what others of the parish might be thinking :D

There is a band called the Dead 60's, had a song out last year called "riot on the radio" was totally Clashy, pretty bitchin song.

Funny, I don't find myself hating Hard Fi to the extent that others do. I don't think they're good or anything, but as purveyors of catchy pop songs, I think they're pretty benign. However, I suppose the problem is that they see themselves as much more than purveyors of catchy pop songs - i.e. being the new Clash.
Much like worthless, talent-free junkie Pete Doherty sees himself as some sort of Byron-esque troubadour.

I dont think they sound like the Clash, I can hear them try copy some parts from The Clash songs but they don't sound like them. They seemed to have just decided to copy a lot of the noises and sound effects from some of the Clash's songs, Rock the Casbah and London Calling come to mind. I think they actually sound more like Franz Ferdinand but with over-production and very bad at that.

I assure you they are. But that doesn't mean they're bad. Adam and The Ants were fantastic. And early Spandau were great too. Do a search on YouTube for To Cut a Long Story Short by Spandau Ballet - you gotta admit there's more than a touch of that about Franz.

they sound like they're trying to rip off kasabian.

the only time the clash and hard fi should be in the same sentence is when saying "hard fi do not deserve to be in the same sentence as the clash."

Front of the current edition of Hot Press: "Hard-Fi: The new Clash?" To answer your question, no.
    What an unfathomably stupid line.

Hard-fi are only trying to be commercially successful, much like many other bands. They're not The Clash. Nothing like them. I have my bones to pick with Joe Strummer and Co. but I think they've a *tad* more credibility than Hard-fi.

They've got the patronising sloganeering down, but the songs themselves aren't there yet.

Oh I think the similarity is uncanny - right down to the outfits.
