While im here, i thought i'd ask i tried logging in last night but got 'server too busy or unable' so i thought it was something with my internet conn. but no it wasnt? Was it too much traffic? or was the site down for a while?

It must have been, couldn't even ping the site. It's not the first time either, I suspect something on the DB side of things and it has been slow for a while now.

Boards was down last night because of a dodgy raid controller in one of their servers, apparently. There's a thread about it in the feedback forum.
